The not calling the Brees timeout from the shotgun and then allowing the play to run a full second after :00 play clock was ridiculous. I can live with the other crappy calls, but that one was inexcusable.

Folks, I'm pleased as punch that the Saints finally dropped one.

But let's take a look at Brady's pocket on the final play...

Last time I checked, chokeholds were frowned upon in the National Football league.

OOps sorry didnt see it posted in that other thread. Maybe this one warrants a thread of its own though.

Hard to say if he would've gotten there in time but he may have gotten close enough to disrupt the throw.

That was a hold but we should have never let it get to that point.

The refs were garbage. That is more proof.

However, our offense should've managed to keep the ball away from them. There's no excuse in them having the ball at all.

Re: i thought I was pissed at the refs before, check this out

This is a game of inches. And, big plays turn the tide. The refs screwed us all day. And, I usually don't say things like this because it is usually not SO one-sided. But, today, I'm sorry but everything's been mentioned -- the ignoring the called timeout, the Jenkins hit, the bad call on us when NE had the offsides....I mean come on!! And, again, I usually don't complain -- because usually the refs call poorly on both teams. But that was just not the case today.

jlouhill 10-13-2013 10:40 PM

Re: i thought I was pissed at the refs before, check this out

I quit blaming refs for loses a long time ago, but yea it did seem a bit one sided today. All in all it still wasn't their fault. We had out chance and blew it.

LOL. I have never seen Brees give a ref a hard time -- but he seriously should have given it some thought today.

Respectfully disagree. I mean if we had been putting up 50-burgers like Denver, then OK, we blew it. But, we haven't been playing like that. And, neither have the Pats. We played a good game against a good team -- and we were disadvantaged by some bad calls. The Pats were not similarly disadvantaged. If they had been -- then OK -- we blew it. That is my argument.

I think he would of gotten there in time.

But its truly not about if he got there in time or not, its the fact it was a hold, plenty times we see holds called that really had no bearing on the outcome of the play.

The refs were pretty atrocious in this game.

- Ball hits ground, called complete.

- Timeout nor delay of game called which resulted in an Interception.

- Holding penalty not called on game winning TD.

- Patriots having 4 timeouts.

See a problem with this? its blatant cheating IMO.

Called Charles Brown for a miniscule hold -- but didn't call the hold on Junior on the final pass play of the game. How can we get our own refs?

Re: These refs have it out for us.

-The refs were horrible today from start to finish. They were so bad the game looked rigged.
-The Saints had 3 chances to get a first down and close out the game. They failed.
-The clock management and playcalling is bad at times. Today it was worse than most games.
-Robinson needs to be worked into the passing/screen game during the bye week. He brings "it" to the running game and needs more playing time while being less predictable.
-The Pats just gave the NFL a blueprint on stopping/slowing down the Saints. Get physical with Graham and Colston.
-Moore needs to get healthy and Meachem, Stills and Toon need to step up and be consistent.
-The Saints D played better without Bunkley. Rotation yes. Starter no.
-Greer letting the WR get behind him in the end zone with 10 seconds left was a horrible play.
-The Saints are 5-1 and in the grand scheme of things, the loss today might turn out to be a good thing. Lots of teaching and motivation can now be applied for two weeks.

I agree with all of this minus one part. Kenny Stills was excellent today, it isn't his fault that Drew chose to throw 6 passes to Jimmy in quintuple coverage, Stills caught all three passes thrown his way, and scored what could have been the winning TD, had the offense done anything at all in the last 3 drives. Meach and Toon both had costly drops and need to step up in the clutch when our other weapons are bottled up. Belichick decided that we were going to have to beat them with our 3rd and 4th WRs, and they let us down.

Maybe it was just me. Maybe it's my extreme homerism. I thought that the refs were blatantly had it out for us. They seemed to be in favor of helping the Pat's out. It was either rigged, or those refs were blind.

Either way, good win for the pats, even if it was by cheating.

Re: These refs have it out for us.

I dont think there is any doubt the ref calls cost us this game, but that is hardly the issue. Our offense needs to start up again, and stop making these games close. I mean we dont have the defense excuse anymore. Defense is playing ok for the 1st time ever.

Well Nostradamus, you were right that we should have blown 'em out to keep the refs from being a factor, nearly did it; but now we know we can't let the refs be a factor...

Did they really get that extra time out? I keep hearing about it but am not sure if it is true or not. I wouldn't be surprised.

Of course, we did all we could to make sure they had enough time, the refs didn't need to give them extra ones if they did.

I'm guessing not, for exactly this reason. If they come out and give the refs an F, or even a D, for this game then all hell would break loose and the NFL would give themselves a problem they can't really fix. And chances are that would happen at least once or twice a month. It would be too much of a distraction from the game.

What made it worst is the official reach for his flag then put his hand back down.

Re: Refs: Home Cooking?

No doubt the refs handed this one to the home team. I thought the Pats did an excellent job with their defensive calls. But look, unless I know more about the rules than the refs, they cooked it for the Pats. That offside penalty (which should have been the correct call) baked the cake. That was like watching the bad actors on some of these "reality" shows. Obvious to the point of nausea.

Some questioning the hit across the middle in New England, It was a shoulder to the chest. No head or neck contact. Not a foul.
