Venturi too complicated?

"We hear a key reason behind the Cardinals’ major defensive improvement under new coordinator Clancy Pendergast is a simplified philosophy that calls for everybody to run to the ball on every play and just take care of business. The word is that more than a few Arizona defensive players felt the previous philosophy under Larry Marmie, who has moved on to St. Louis in the same capacity, was a bit too complicated and scheme-heavy. Pendergast’s straightforward, aggressive tactics, combined with the constant possibility that head coach Dennis Green will replace non-producers in a heartbeat, has resulted in a dramatic turnaround, as well as a major boost in the defense’s confidence." does anyone think the reason the defense fails so much is that Venturi is intellectuallizing a bunch of 2 and 3 yr players? and i know there are veterans and everyone is a professional and should be able to deal, but.... i wonder if this is why we fail so much is that its too complicated for our younger players and even our older ones. maybe we should just unleash the ability in our defenisive players. since we are pretty sure they are all good atheletes considering thats what Haslett drafts, why not let them run and tackle and stop thinking about it so much? |
