Venturi too complicated?

"We hear a key reason behind the Cardinals’ major defensive improvement under new coordinator Clancy Pendergast is a simplified philosophy that calls for everybody to run to the ball on every play and just take care of business. The word is that more than a few Arizona defensive players felt the previous philosophy under Larry Marmie, who has moved on to St. Louis in the same capacity, was a bit too complicated and scheme-heavy. Pendergast’s straightforward, aggressive tactics, combined with the constant possibility that head coach Dennis Green will replace non-producers in a heartbeat, has resulted in a dramatic turnaround, as well as a major boost in the defense’s confidence." does anyone think the reason the defense fails so much is that Venturi is intellectuallizing a bunch of 2 and 3 yr players? and i know there are veterans and everyone is a professional and should be able to deal, but.... i wonder if this is why we fail so much is that its too complicated for our younger players and even our older ones. maybe we should just unleash the ability in our defenisive players. since we are pretty sure they are all good atheletes considering thats what Haslett drafts, why not let them run and tackle and stop thinking about it so much? |

Good point. Might just be the ticket. Sure as hell can\'t hurt.

Well you can\'t completly abandon scheme. I think that we don\'t blitz nearly enough. But Read and React seems more like Let the other team walk all over us.
But Venturi is set in his ways. The only way to get a change is to get rid of him along with the rest of the coaching staff. SFIAH |

i think its less about abandoning the scheme and more about adjusting it to fit the players and not the other way around.
but it got to agree, if nothing else is done this offseason, get rid of Venturi as Def. Coor. |

Great
So our players are the only ones confused by the defense . 31 other teams have it figured out and seem to score at will on it . |

Venturi too complicated?
The defense simply has no clue. Sorry coaching has left the players clueless as to what will happen come Sunday.
Too many times, I have seen coverage breakdowns lead to opposing team TD\'s. Admit it, Venturi, your defense sucks because of you! Every week, the defense gives up miles upon miles on the ground, which leads to a hampered secondary with little to no LB help. And it certainly looks like it will never improve... |

maybe its not the scheme but the terminology.
maybe Venturi is overloading his players with words and thats preventing from getting that turnover or making the tackle sooner (assuming we make that tackle, of course) that might account for why we cant seem to develop our defensive draft picks sooner, they are too busy learning words rather than how to beat a lineman or make a tackle or do anything beside stare at the back of an opponets jersey as he scores a 45 yd touchdown. |
