You know who I thought was brilliant on the air? The late Hank Stram. I know, on that Super Bowl III film, he looked like a dipstick. "65 Toss Power Trap 65 Toss Power Trap!" Also, one of his players, whom I've met, was not enamored. But when he was doing those national broadcasts on Westwood One, where you can flesh out the conversation, and talk to a deeper, more intelligent audience, he really shined. He caught not only Xs and Os, but mental dealings, and just a lot of fascinating insight on the sidelines, and some great stories too. Whats even more amazing is that the same grating voice you hear on NFL Films, translated fantasticly on am-radio. (I'm a 30 year radio voice myself, and I like the way I sound on am- radio better) I thought Stram sounded great on am radio, where you need to be a little larger than life. |
