Ryans defense against running QBs
With SF, Seattle, and Carolina coming up I got to wondering how our D will fare against these running QBs. With our run D the way it is it kind of scares me. I dont think he will be able to blitz as much either. If we can keep Kapernick honest and make him beat us with his arm we should win this one but his, and the other two's running capability scare me. We have not seen one of these Qbs yet this year and I am curious to see what happens. Here is where Rob earns his paycheck.

Re: Ryans defense against running QBs
kapersnick may remember the good times he had last season when we were blindsided by a bad defensive coordinator, and his running ability. but this is robs heroes this year. look out frisco.

Re: Ryans defense against running QBs
I re-watched the game today and a few things stand out.
1. When we switched to the heavy 34 set we played much better against the run. (heavy meaning 3 DL and 4 actual LBs) 2. It's hard for me to tell but I saw more gap blocking by our O-line. (can anyone confirm this?) |

Re: Ryans defense against running QBs
SF's offense & QB 9'ers (too lazy to look up how to spell his name much less care) got the luxury of a Spags-coached D last year. We've got the luxury this year of a different DC, a better mix of talent, and many, many, many snaps of game film on 9'er QB.
Like our chances; that running QB does anything but scare me. If they get Gore going, however, it'll be a long game. |
