Offensive line play

IMO they did very well for the most part in both pass protection and run support. This was a very good D we faced today. Brees was only sacked once that I can remember and although he was hurried he wasn't pulling himself up off the ground as much as he was when we have played other big physical defenses.
We even are beginning to get something that resembles a running game behind this line.
This is important because they are going to have to play like this from here one out. The defenses we have ahead of us aren't going to get any easier and this was a great test which I think we have passed.

Another area I see that has been greatly improved is our run defense. We kept Gore in straight up check today. A lot of teams can't say that.
We are making adjustments where we need to and that is what real contenders are able to do.
Today we lost because of stupid mistakes. We gave them every single point they made. The good thing is that mistakes can be corrected, and I think this just may have been the game to get it out of their system.
I have a feeling a lot of players are going to be in Paytons dog house this week.

Oh and I do have to give props to Hartley. Nearly gave me a heart attack but he won the game for us so all is forgiven right now. HOPEFULLY he has his mojo back.

Re: Offensive line play

I still would feel better with another LT, Charles Brown still lets edge rushers get past him to easily. Jahari Evans is definitely getting healthier, we didn't hear anything about the NT the whole game.

Re: Offensive line play

I have never seen a 300+ lineman tossed around like Charles Brown did today. Is it technique? Skill? Recognition?

Whatever the problem he has got to fix it yesterday.

Re: Offensive line play

This just proves how good Bushrod was. With Bushrod I think we would be undefeated.

Bushrod wasn't worth a crap (according to some) after Demarcus Ware abused him a couple of years ago.
Bushrod was getting it done then, and Charles Brown is getting it done now.
There was only 1 real sack today and that was the clothes-line from the opposite side.
The few mistakes and whiffs get way too much replay.
Down after down Brown has ONE of the most difficult blind-side responsibilities on the field.
Every now and then he will need some help (a chipper).
Brown is wrestling grizzlies and doing a pretty good job of it.

Bushrod gave up two sacks to a Hall of Fame player. Charles Brown gets beat week in and week out. I don't think there is any way you can honestly compare the two. I can't honestly see Brown returning to the team next season.
