Not a clothes line at all. Just because his arm is out doesn't mean its a clothes line. It was a putting your arm out to make a grab. Typically a clothes line also has the ball carrier running Drew was standing still. I don't have a problem with the penalty its a close call but the rules are the rules.

I do not agree that a fine should be apart of the penalty. It did not have malicious intent nor horrible enough to warrant a fine.

"What happened to the suit, Ray? What happened to the suit?" ... Lewis is a boob and another example of 'just because you were a good player, doesn't mean you'll be a good coach/have a future after the game" ... the only incite he has that I'd be interested in concerns that night it Atlanta, 12/13yrs ago.

That hit's a fine all-day, every-day in today's NFL. Sure, maybe it wasn't 10yrs ago, but that was then, this is now. If they don't fine him, every other player that has been fined this season should file a class-action suit vs the NFL, just sayin'.

Re: Ray Lewis willing to help Ahmad Brooks fine for his hit on Drew Brees

that was a bad hit on brees. even though it was close to the neck with the close line look , it was the finish that was a no-brainer for ref's. the slam to the lower part of his neck/higher part of the pads. naturally the arm will move upward to the jaw of brees that sent the helmet rising signaling the zebra to reach automaticly for the yellowish rag they call . THE FLAG. it was a great call. it had to be damn-it. look at some of the BS calls with a finger brushing against the face mast they call, it was the right call, i'm done.

thats the fact jack!!!!!

I agree it shouldn't matter who the QB is, the rules should be universal, but IMO the reality is QB's like Manning or Brady get the calls quicker (and a lot of the times they are always questionable).
As far as being fined, was the swing from Brooks a blatant attempt to injure Brees? The hit was brutal and I never want to see Brees get hit like that, just not sure it was meliscious.
Why is anyone "swinging"?

Wrap or grab... No need to go club arming people. Had brooks let his arm hit Drews chest at the speed he was running then wrap or hang on he would have still gone down and there would have been no penalty.

I don't really fault Ray for his statement. He's a defensive guy so when something is not blatantly an illegal hit, he's going to support the defensive guy. Plus, brooks doesn't have a history of dirty hits.

There is a difference between preponderance of evidence and reasonable doubt. Just like in OJs case there was reasonable doubt, although in civil litigation he was determined to be guilty by the preponderance of evidence. You can use this same example with Lewis.

I for one choose to live in a world where people dont get sentenced to life in prison or death unless they are found guilty beyond reasonable doubt. Now you may choose to live in whatever world you want to but that's not reallity.

As for Goodell, he has done nothing criminal so comparisons between him and some other individual accused of a crime isn't intelligent. Goodell may have done things to land himself in civil litigation but that has yet to come forth.
I like you buddy and I respect your opinion..........but what Godhell has done is definitely criminal!

Interesting. It certainly wouldn't be the 1st time Ray Lewis tried to help someone get away with murder.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this. Nothing wrong with swinging your arms around as long as it doesn't hit above the shoulders. In this case, it happened to be above the shoulders but any other situation dlineman/linebackers are being taught to "swat" or "swing" at the qb's chest and arms to try to cause a sack fumble. Once again, I'm not saying the brooks hit was legal but swinging at a player to try to dislodge the ball is not against the rules. You just have to be aware of the consequences if you miss and hit too high.

Re: Ray Lewis willing to help Ahmad Brooks fine for his hit on Drew Brees

[QUOTE=Budsdrinker;549993]Disagree with a couple of your statements here.
First off in today's game and the mode of player safety, blows like this to the head or neck area that could have been prevented will and should be fined. Brooks could have hit Brees lower, he wasn't blocked at all and could have nailed Drew in the midsection but chose to swing his arm high.
/QUOTE]

Sounds like the definition of a clothesline to me. Come to think of it, the last dude I saw throw one of those was Mean Joe Green in 79'.

Brooks need to learn the new rules of today's NFL football and adapt whether he likes it or not.
