Running attack vs. Seahawks defense. Thoughts?

We've stepped up our power running game since the Jets game and have been quite effective at blowing some holes open and running through them.

How do ya'll feel our running attack will do against the Seahawks defense??

Not good.

We'll be about average.

Maybe better than you think ... we have a healthy stable of backs. Whereas other teams have no depth.

Better than average. They give up some run defense to control Brees and co.

Seahawks have been gouged with rushing yards a couple of games this year. I expect that with their secondary woes though that Payton/Brees will do what they do best.

They can't cover everyone...

Where's TheOak when you need him? We need some cold hard facts and stats up in here!!

I've seen some teams gouge them, I just don't have any stats on hand. I'll wait for TheOak to spruce this thread up.

The Seahawk game is so next month. I am not going to think about the game.
I am going to reflect on grace

Everyone here on B&G, my family, and friends.
And the underrated and unappreciated Pierre Thomas, a Healthy Sproles and all my Saints.

And as I put the big turkey leg to my lips after my prayers, I will close my eyes and savor the taste of Pacific Northwest Seahawk while I watch the Lions rip the Packets limb to limb.

I look forward to this short break to concentrate on the Grace of God.

Your best bet is likely Sproles - the two games where we gave up a lot of Rushing Yardage were against smaller backs and the plays were largely delays or up the middle runs where the smaller backs got lost among the big bodies and then burst into the open for a 10 yard or so gain.
Having said this, the 2 games this was a big issue were back to back and seem to have been resolved based on our most recent games.....I wouldn't count on being able to run much...I would look to use those backs, as Brees typically does, in play action - if we are susceptible anywhere it is short middle and when our LB's are in coverage.

Seattle Seahawks 2013 Statistics - Team and Player Stats - ESPN

Besides Lynch, they have Wilson that scrambles around. That's pretty much it. And they have very average receivers. They allow 115 ypg on defense (not really dominant as claimed). We should be able to move the ball on the ground. Our screen is like a running play anyway. If there is bad weather, it should advantage us as the DBs will not know where the route breaks are. And of course, there is no D for Grambeaux.

Re: Running attack vs. Seahawks defense. Thoughts?

If you simply look at the numbers for the season thus far, the Saints are 23rd best in the league running the ball and Seattle is 15th best in stopping the run... so, slight advantage to Seattle.

In the passing game, the Saints are 2nd best in the league and Seattle's defense against the pass is 2nd best.... so I'll call that a push.

Flipping it around, Seattle is 3rd best in running the ball and the Saints are 14th best in defending the run... advantage Seattle.

And Seattle is 24th best passing the ball and the Saints are 3rd best defending the pass... advantage Saints.

Both teams are excellent in defending the pass. Both teams are middle of the pack in defending the run.

The Saints forte is passing the ball. Seattle's forte is running the ball. No surprise, right? Pretty much what we already knew.

Imo, the outcome of the game will hinge on which team is more effective in establishing their run game and staying with it to the bitter end.

It should be a helluva good game to watch and a credit to both organizations being featured on MNF late in the season.
