This One Is On Sean

Love me some Sean Payton, but this loss is on him. As good a motivator as he is, he failed to find the switch for this one. I think Seattle got in our heads last week, through the hype (and it's real of course) about playing there. We were done before we got on the plane in New Orleans.

This one, in my opinion, is on coach. We came out flat and stayed flat and had no chance to recover from the bad breaks we got early on. We just weren't ready to play that game.

U can motivate a horse to drink water doesn't mean it will. I think the drops ans turnovers were the killer. Can't let cam run over us like Wilson

The one thing about next week is that the panthers secondary won't be able to get us off the field like the birds did. That and we're gonna be nice and warm in the Dome.

I know payton dnt like attitude but we need it.. we need a guy who is getting his ass beat down along way from home on defense who gets in face hits hard dnt put up with bs.. guys we just dont have it i seen some attitude but just not enough... as far as r offense we need what we always need a running back... i love sproles and pierre, but we need a lynch, gore, petterson. hell not even them we need a physical runner.. ingram cant do it pierre is a great catching and so is sproles.. saying that give them more touches or just pass 80 times a game... I mean gotta try to pound that ball.. i hate when ingram is in cause everybody in the world knows we running

I agree. This loss is on the coaches. This was a melt down at every level. It is back to the drawing board for Seattle in Seattle.

Re: This One Is On Sean

If there were one game in which I was hoping Sean would use some trickery it was this one. Everything was flat from the beginning and the fact that there was a miscommunication on the very first play of the game sort of set the tone.

But if it hadn't been for about 4 or 5 key plays on defense, it could have been a different outcome. The officials missing the sack. Corey White.... don't even get me started. Some mind-numbing penalties on third down (Akiem Hicks what are you doing?).

I wouldn't call us a 'soft dome team', we made mental mistakes and had sh*tty execution. A soft team would* have let Lynch and Gore run all over them.

VERY disappointing! I felt like I was watching the NBA and we just took this game off. In the Sean Payton post game presser, he talked about "moving on."

I'm moving on, but I want this team to remember this and do something about it. With all the talent we have at WR, why are we dropping so much? Why wasn't sporles part of our offense? Where is Lance Moore in our offense?? Why make a key throw on 3rd down to Hill and not Graham (esp. after Graham dropped one earlier and had already caught one to redeem himself).

So may question, so little time. I'm not buying the "short week" thing. I know it's hard to travel to the west coach but west coast teams travel here and play hard!

My point is, if our receivers aren't good enough, let's get some more. Why do we have so many paid veteran receivers that are either under utilized or appear to be somewhat "benched" because they're not catching the ball... but still getting paid. I'd rather see us change their utility or get some "producer" receivers in there.

That's just one aspect, but I agree we need to move on, but not without some contemplative thought to prevent an embarrassment like this in the future.

we definitely aren't a mean and nasty type team. I'd call it a finesse team which we seem to be vulnerable to the bully type team

Eh, I think it's more on the players than coaches. They let themselves get intimidated. They were tight and jittery and it showed.

I don't buy into the "soft dome team" theory at all, that's just a bunch of media-driven narrative BS. This team is physically and mentally tough, they just ran into a buzz saw tonight. They will bounce back against the Panthers.

play calling is questionable at best when its 3rd and 2 you don't need to throw it all the way down the field just pick up the first down then take a shot on 1st and 2nd but we don't . we go run screen deep or run run deep

I don't think we were intimidated. The game, as called against Seattle, was not working on both sides of the ball. This is on the coaches. If we have the players to get the job done -- then the game plan was wrong. Since nothing worked ( pretty much anywhere and we have the players on the roster to get the job done ) then the game plan was wrong. If it was only execution -- then the game would have been more uneven -- some things working, some things not, due to player execution. In this game, nothing worked.

Looks to me like no one was prepared, on our team, for Seattle. Almost, like no one watched any film. Or couldn't translate from film to the field.

Or, it could be that Seattle is just a better team, physically, better prepared and coached. But, initimidated, I don't think so.

Seattle has our number and the hype seeped into the players heads. Also Brees should have been pulled early in the fourth.

Re: This One Is On Sean

Brees needs to shoulder a lot of blame as well .He wasn't very accurate at all. I saw a lot of high passes or uncatchable back shoulder passes tonight. He missed a lot of open check downs that were wide open. His decision making on the road isn't what I'd call the best. His shovel passes are some of the worst I've ever seen.

I was talking about the O line and offensive side more but lber and secondary could use alittle nastiness

I don't agree that we are a soft dome team. Remember what happened in Chicago earlier this year? Soft dome team is BS.

But, I couldn't agree more with your comments here, though. All year, I have watched Colston, Meachem, Moore and even Graham drop passes. Who stands out from the pack -- Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles.

Here are the pass completion percentages this year for our top recievers:
Thomas 90.3%
Sproles 81.4%
Graham 67%
Colston 65%
Moore 57.6%
Meachem 55.0%

I agree. But, he was under duress. O-line issues again! Dammit. And, looks like Strief is injured. Maybe for the best. I'd say our O-Line was improving, until tonight.

I saw balls hitting receivers on the hands. I saw the ball fall through Meachum's hands while he swatted at it like he had lobster claws. I saw Jimmy Graham drop a pass when he was dinged from behind. I saw Drew throw an "INT/fumble" when Streif was bunt like toast on the outside before he could throw to the safety valve for a screen. I saw Hill reach out and not catch a ball that would have been very catch-able by Graham.

Drew has already taken the blame, but really with a failed o-line, I think he was the least of our problems tonight, and he sucked which goes to tell you how bad other aspects of our offense REALLY sucked including playcall.

DISPLACEDFAN 12-03-2013 02:45 AM

Re: This One Is On Sean

I don't think the O-line was all that bad to be honest. I know a lot of you won't agree but Brees was only sacked one time. He had time to make throws. I saw 6-7 jimmy leaping to catch balls. I thought the ball to Meachum was under thrown. The ball to Kenny was very low. I know its a cardinal sin to throw blame at the QB like Brees but he deserves some. Over all I think its the whole team that played lousy and your right the guys need to catch some of those balls. WE PLAYED LIKE CHIT in every aspect nobody gets a pass

WHODATINCA 12-03-2013 03:02 AM

Re: This One Is On Sean

I didn't watch Brees on every play -- Steve Young said SEA pass rush contested every throw. Brees is, of course, very accurate. I saw some catch-able balls that were missed. Our O-line did not open holes for Ingram and I wonder why PT with his very bankable hands was not thrown to more.

Sean definitely got outcoached last night. It hurts me to say that because I hate Pete Carroll so bad, but truth is truth.

However, I can't say the loss is ALL on him. There is plenty of blame to go around. Everybody can have a piece.

Why does everybody want to blame Payton like players don't have to execute.....or like we weren't even really in playoff contention this time last year without him...

neugey 12-03-2013 06:56 AM

Re: This One Is On Sean

IMO we needed to call more plays that torch zone coverage, like the trips formation stuff. Those are the plays we had success with tonight (the Colston first down and Graham TD come to mind). It seems like our passing game is meant to get the best one-on-one matchup and expose it ... but that won't work against a zone defense like Seattle's.

Because Sean is in fact a human and he, like players, has bad games. Its not like we've made it to the playoffs every year with him.2007 and 2008 we were 8-8 and 7-9. Needless to say, we didn't make the playoffs those years. I love Sean and he is by far the best coach the Saints have had and one of the best coaches in the NFL, but he is not god.

The ship hasn't sunk.

The fat lady hasn't sang.

The sky isn't falling.

I only got to watch the 2/3rd's of the 2nd half last night and listened to the 1st half on WWL. I didn't really understand just how bad we were playing until I saw it. This was a; head to toe, terrible performance for the Saints. (PERIOD)

I can't remember the last time I watched the Saints play this bad. Last year doesn't even compare to how bad they played last night. I don't put this loss just on Payton. Each and everyone of the players and coaches get an equal bite out of this poop filled sandwich, with a luke warm cup of pee to wash it down with.

Hats off to the Seahawks. They came to play and play they did. I would call it a solid victory to solidify who the best team in the NFC; if not the NFL, is right now. So again, hats off to them.

Now, onto this weekend. The Saints have just as hard of an team to play. The Panthers are on a roll. And whats worse, they are HUNGRY! We don't look like a team that's hungery. We look like a team thats full. I can only tell you how I would feel if I was a player. I would be studying tape like a mad man. Come Sunday, I would be out for blood. No matter what team I was getting ready for. I would even know how many seconds the water boy squeezed the bottle each time he gave a player a drink.

I hope the Saints feel/prepare/execute in the same manner.

Lost in the trenches. Plain and simple. Didn't protect our QB. Got punched and didn't punch back.

Seattle was the better team in all phases. If you can't see that than I suggest soccer.

We all marked this on our calendars as a loss. I know I did, I think that is why im not horribly mad.... I don't think I thought it would be this bad... But expect a buckling down from Shawn and crew in order to win the NFC South....

Its always the coaches fault.

What a surprise. Its the coaches fault for everything the team does on the field. It is their game plan, it is their players they picked to be on the team and on the field so they are responsible for the talent or lack of on the team as well.

So why is this a surprise?

The Saints are gonna be in the playoffs. What happens then is anybody's guess. Anybody can get hot. They didn't make that phrase, "any given Sunday" on a whim.

With that being said, they have a hard time in Seattle, but if/when that game is played, they will begin the game at 0-0.
