Re: Saints Rams week 15
What I noticed about Cam Newtons tendencies.
If you come at him from both sides you have a 50/50 chance to sack him, he has a tendency to back peddle instead of step up into the pocket. If you come at him from one side and either a LB or a DE takes an inside route he bolts outside. If you come from both sides and leave a LB home up the middle he runs backwards for decent lost yardage. Most of his runs last night were because we didn't leave anyone home up the middle or one side took an inside route and he went to the outside. |

Re: Saints Rams week 15
This article says it all:
Three things revisited: Rams-Cardinals - St. Louis Rams Blog - ESPN Against the Cards, they allowed 100 yards on the ground, their O-line gave up four sacks and Clemens was hurried all day. They are tied for being the 5th most penalized team ... they gave up 105 yards against the 9ers to penalties. Saying the Rams "always give us fits" doesn't mean anything. Teams are different every year. They have a running game with Tavon Austin, but he may be playing hurt this week after an ankle injury in the Cards game. A running game which the Cards were able to stifle, btw. I noticed we have been shutting down the running game of a few very good teams lately. The scariest thing about them is their D is often stout against the run. But, some of you may have noticed that running the ball, except in just a few games, really hasn't been our bread and butter ( but some here continue to hope that will improve ). |

Re: Saints Rams week 15
but allowing 100 yards to the Cards doesn't really matter, when the Cards had to run it 28 times to get there(only 3.3 ypc)... We haven't ran the ball more than 20 times a game all season, I don't think...

A few things to address
Austin is a wr Zach stacy is a good RB ee need to watch for The rams are good where it counts. Good o line and great d line. They have an awful QB and poor DBs. This should be a game we win but we cant overlook them as we have in the past. |

Re: Saints Rams week 15
It's not the Rams that "give us fits" . It's the slow and sloppy start to our own offense that gives us fits. It's not the weapons, or the players the Rams have, that worry me -- I'm worried about the "storyline" of the various Rams games we've lost, which is the same familiar storyline as virtually every other important Saints road loss, whether it's the Bears NFCCG or Seahawks or Ravens or 49ers, or the Pats & Jets and Seahawks games this year. In that scenario, the Saints will come out flat, they'll dig themselves into a big hole of points, mostly due to sloppy play and turnovers, then they rally heroically in the second half to make the game close, but can't pull it out.
I am tired of watching that particular movie over and over. You can't win a road game in the NFL if you only show up for the last 2 or 3 quarters. This is the one scenario where "Finish Strong" just won't cut it, and it happens to the Saints on the road, again and again and again. They need to come out guns blazing, not lay an egg and go 3 and out. If the Saints get down by 10 or more, in the 1st/2nd quarter on Sunday, it will be a long day for them. Almost every single road loss the Saints have, over the years, fits that pattern of a slow, futzing start, and the other team capitalizes on mistakes while the Saints offense stalls and sits around with their thumb up their collective you know what. If you start seeing the 3-and-outs, if the Saints get down by 1 or 2 scores early and are -1 or -2 in the turnovers at halftime, this game is all but over. There are a handful of miracle games like Miami in '09 that are exceptions to this rule, but if the Saints go into a funk in the first/second quarter and get too far down at halftime on the road, you can pretty much bet they are out of it, unless the other team is a real sad sack team. |
