this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; is it just me, or does it look like something is up with AB\'s release on his throws?...

right on that one. all those draft pick and our pass rush is bland and pointless outside of Grant. need better blitz packages. (or D-Coordinator)
Special teams def. gets my gameball. They ruled today. |

I think they should start throwing to Karney out of the backfield. The guy has great hands and is nothing but power. Imagine him with a head of steam. Nothing but positive yardage. This kid may end up being the best full back in the league.

1) Deuce needs to start trusting Karney to lay the wood. There were a couple of times all he needed to do was simply run behind Karney\'s block, but picked another hole. 2) My brother and I got into a heated (yet friendly ) screaming match during the game about running the ball. It\'s his contention that the Saints simply line up in the I and cram the ball down the defense\'s throat 3-5 yards at a time. I contend that the running game can be significantly enhanced simply by mixing it up a bit more and not let Karney be a key to the run game. Frankly I\'d like to see Deuce run the ball less than 1/2 the time on 1st down. I want a mix of runs, play action, dump offs to Deuce and Karney, and yes even a screen or two. Make the defensive line pay for trying to be disciplined in the run game on 1st and 2nd down. Just some thoughts, SFIAH |

BTW a question related to this: what exactly can one do in the chuck zone? Is there any reason why teams don\'t defend great receivers such as Moss and Owens by simply flattening them on the line of scrimmage. Is there a rule against it? SFIAH |

Can\'t agree with you more SFIAT about Duece following Karney\'s lead block...I kept yelling into the other room where my friend was yesterday saying,\" WHY WONT DEUCE FOLLOW KARNEY!!\" Seems like when were we in the red zone Karney threw a lead block and deuce cut it back inside, and on the replay he could of gotten 6-7 more yards if he\'d followed Karney

Glad I\'m not the only one that noticed deuce not following Karney. I was really dumbfounded on a couple of plays when Karney opened up lanes for Deuce that he could have run for long runs thru...but Deuce took his own path for a yard gain. I was starting to wonder if Deuce was taking payoffs from Oakland...either that, or McCarthy was taking bribes. It\'s the only explanation for some of Mike\'s play calling.

As far as I know, inside that first 5 yds. you can rip into the WR to throw off his route. This is a good thing for us now that we have MM and Brown. Both are big, physical guys that can muscle folks off their timing. Tillman of the Bears made his name as a rookie last year abusing Moss at the LOS.
Unfortunately for us we have had til now Fred Thomas, who is fundamentally a great CB, but gets bech-pressed by guys like Owens and burned bt Moss. And yeah, I hate the 2 TE set. It only works when you mix in effective plays and a great ability to audible at the line (re: Peyton Manning). Our bread and butter should by 2 back sets. Karney is a great short yard guy to take pressure off Deuce and can catch. One other formation that I think will actually work well vs. the Broncos is a 2 TE 2 back 1 WR set. As long as you preoccupy Bailey and Kennedy, and suck their LBs in, I think both Deuce and AB will have great days. [Edited on 26/10/2004 by BiggPoppaFro3] |
