Re: 2014 NFL Draft
I had posted this in response to Oak's thread on WR's & thought I would drop it on here to get my thoughts out there. I like the input from Hagan714, Danno, and jeanpierre as well and for the most part the feeling is mutual. But my post is more offensive(WR) focused. Here it is......
"Agreed. I know some people here are high on Jordan Matthews & others in the 2nd-3rd Rd, but i feel like Allen Robinson(6'3, 215lb) out of Penn St is someone we should really be targeting in the 2nd. He may not be the biggest name but the kid is my favorite player in this years draft. Reminds me of a combination of Josh Gordon & Jordy Nelson ...little slower than Gordon but has big game speed and similar in the aspect of Size/Big play making ability & that he will be a 21 year old rookie. Allen is a true # 1 wr and can go up and make the big catch(see michigan game, etc.) something we really struggled with in the playoffs and season outside of Jimmy. someone who can step in right away year one and contribute, then be our #1 the following year. I honestly believe he can be a pro bowler and top wr in this league and wouldnt mind if he was selected with our # 27 overall pick just to make sure we grab him although id much rather go CB/LB 1st rd and get him in the 2nd. Watch the kids tape....in the last 2 years he was consecutively honored as Big Ten receiver of the year while putting up a total of: 174 rec, 2,450 yds, 17 TD This was also accomplished in a pro style offense with Mcgloin throwing to him, would love to see what Brees and Sean can do with him. Other WR guys id like to see in the black & gold AFTER the 1st Rd would include: Cody Latimer - Indiana Jordan Matthews - Vanderbilt Jarvis Landry - LSU Martavis Bryant - Clemson Brandon Coleman - Rutgers Jeff Janis - Saginaw Valley St. Jared Abbrederis - Wisconsin Ryan Grant - Tulane Donte Moncrief - Ole Miss. Chris Boyd - Vandy L'Damien Washington - Mizzou And of course i'd be thrilled wit ODB, Davante, Cooks, Watkins, Evans, Benjamin but they're more likely to go round 1 & My post is targeting guys we could grab round 2 & so on. Thoughts? Would like to hear some of yalls favorite WR's are and where you would like to draft them." |

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Jeanpierre i already know your guy would be matthews, which is definitely justified. Solid pick.

My problem with Allen Robinson is that he has adequate speed, injury prone and disappeared in difficult matchups... |

I agree, 4.6 flat isnt elite but plays much faster, tape confirms that imo. I think injury, average qb play, having to build chemistry with a new qb and learning new systems had something to do with his inconsistencies even at that he still had a 1400+ yrd season with 11TD's and broke records. I think people tend to forget he had a new coach and system from 2011-2012 and then had a new qb going into 2013. Could never really get familiar with anything and he's still only 20years old and expected to be a leader on that team... Thats asking a whole heck of a lot outta the kid. His upside is All-pro and i believe he can definitely achieve that if placed in an organization to succeed like the Saints. Can be every bit of a larry fitz, jordy nelson, alshon jeffery "type" player which all ran between that 4.5-4.6 time like Allen. Guess i just have a bigger man crush...watch the tape again and again haha He has the time to grow and learn, doesnt have to take over at number 1 rite away... just like alshon, Colston can be his brandon marshall for a year or two.. |

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
I'd post my top 140 prospects if anyone would be interested? Like to make my own draft board to see value that falls into later rds(rd 5 or later) Im big on the draft and keep track of each player to mark off my board and where they land

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
I'm starting to really warm up to Ryan Shazier, but as an ILB not OLB.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
+1. agreed, I'd be absolutely good with that. Me & my brother were saying the same thing. Id like him a whole lot more as an ILB in a 3-4. We're definitely lacking a whole lot more in that area more so than OLB like the media thinks, especially athleticism wise

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Allen Robinson ahhh the forgotten man lol
i love the skill set. he aint a burner but plays really tough. Round one knock i have on him is his lack of consistency. he runs hot and cold but that could be do to a lot factors at penn state so i give him a flyer there. biggest issue is route running skill. to give him the benefit of doubt i would say they are ok at best. you draft him in round one based on mostly upside. if he get this straighten up he has a chance of being something really special. Cody Latimer - Indiana - now i have my eyes on this kid. he could be a major steal in the draft L'Damien Washington - Mizzou he is a late round version of Allen Robinson IMO. if the coaching sinks in he has the skill set to be something special at half the risk all the others are solid players but those two are the ones i am watching and think about the most |

Speed can be deceiving, im more concerned wit in game play/speed than being a workout warrior ha. Seems to be why jarvis landry, jordan matthews and other guys are flying under the radar, its the deepest wr draft for a reason...a few of these guys will turn out to be big time players over some of these bigger names thrown out there.![]()
But latimer, yes! Only bad news on cody, is ppl are starting to recognize him and move him up the boards bc he's getting healthy. The Talent is definitely there, to go along with size. Physical, athletic, good speed & hands. The feeling is mutual my friend. Hopefully teams and organizations continue to sleep on these guys and they fall right into our lap. Smokescreens maybe tho...i guess we'll have to wait until the draft to see teams true value on certain players ha Yea, like washington as well obviously, but my biggest knock is consistency and he needs to add weight!! Ha. Looks like he's gonna fly away at times lol, i guess the 6'4 length doesnt help |
