I would rather Drew take the safety than throw that interception.

Yes because it resulted in a pic but if a saint caught it you wouldn't be saying that

I don't feel sorry for kickers that can't make a 29 yarder. Yes he was clutch in 2009 but was a head case. I'm happy that he is gone but sad that our ST coach Greg Mcmahon is still hired.

Yea we are really poor in the ST area which is one of the most important aspects all we really got going is a good punter

I don't even consider what he did during the superbowl run to be worth noting. He's a kicker. He makes ungodly amounts more than I do to do one thing. Kick a freaking ball.

It's not like he made 50 yarders to win games, or a 61 yarder like Tucker did last night. He made field goals that kickers are supposed to make. The whole rest of his career, he did nothing but miss chip shot after chip shot. He doesn't get a pass from me now, and he didn't get one from me 4 years ago. Sean Payton waited way too long to do this.

I don't wish anything bad on Hartley as a person, but he is an absolutely dreadful kicker.

No, We are in the final quarter of the regular season and we cut our kicker because he had a couple kicks blocked.

Our QB throws an interception on his 1st pass of the game and later throws another into triple coverage.

We throw on 1st down so often that Helen Keller and Ray Charles can see it coming.

Some of the losses and close games are because of Payton's 'mad scientist' mentality.

That is inaccurate. We cut our kicker because he had a very low success % and we did not want to take the risk going into the playoffs. This issue has been around for a LONG TIME. WHODATINCA approves this roster change.

I agree with you there. The only thing ST has done this season is the 80+ yard kickoff return by Cadet -- for f*ck's sake he was DUE. I can't remember the last time our ST did anything like that -- it certainly hasn't been this season.

I thought early on that special teams play will determine how far we get in the playoffs.

I am not sad to see him go one single bit. He made 2 decent kicks our Super Bowl year and thats the ONLY reason hes been around this long. He has ridden on the coat tails of those kicks ever since. That goes for any player, like Vilma. I dont care how far your play gets us, when your done producing you should be gone and replaced by someone who can. Screw this "Oh we owe him because he helped us get to the Super Bowl jibber jabber. I will say the same thing with Brees when his time comes. When it comes time where someone else can do a better job then see ya. Thankfully that wont be for a long long time.

Doesnt mean I dont apprieciate what they have done, but if we arent constantly trying to get better at every position, every year, we wont get back to where we want to be.

I'm thrilled Hartley is gone, but this has taken way too long. He was very shaky during the overtime loss to the Bucs near the end of the 2009 season and he absolutely cost us that game. Then in 2010, everyone forgets he shanked a chip shot against the Vikings during our home opener that would have given us an 8 point lead. We still won, but geez. Then a few weeks later, of course, he shanked another chip shot against the Falcons and that really ended up biting us in the arse! I'm so glad I'm gonna bake a cake.

Welcome aboard Shayne Graham!

I never want to see anyone lose their job. I wish Hartley the best. When we need you the most you were one of the best. A Super Bowl winning kicker. You will not be forgotten.Thank you.

"Whether it's [the kicker], the tackle position, whether it's a player on defense, the one thing I know I don't want to do is just repeat the process over and over again. So we're gonna look closely at what our options are and what gives us the best chance as we get ready to play this coming week and then obviously one week remaining."

Previously this season, Hartley struggled through a rough November, and at one point, the team brought in five kickers, including Graham and Neil Rackers, to try out for Hartley's job. Obviously, the team kept Hartley instead.

But after Hartley's most recent struggles, the team has decided to bring in a new kicker as it tries to lock down the NFC South division title this week at Carolina. A corresponding move has not been made yet.

One of Hartley's brightest moments in New Orleans, of course, came when he kicked a game-winning 40-yard field goal to beat the Vikings in the NFC title game and send the Saints onto Super Bowl XLVI.

FOR THAT, HE ALWAYS WILL BE REMEMBERED FONDLY BY SAINTS FANS.
