Hartley waived and Shayne Graham Signed [MERGED]
1 Attachment(s)
Sean Payton has run out of patience in Garrett Hartley.
The Saints waived Hartley on Tuesday, ending the kicker's six-year tenure in New Orleans. Hartley had been a disappointment this season, making just 22-of-30 field goal attempts. The final straw came Sunday, when Hartley missed two of three kicks in a 27-16 loss to the St. Louis Rams. Fox Sports 1's Mike Garafolo reported the team will sign veteran kicker Shayne Graham to replace Hartley. A frustrated Payton hinted a shake-up could be coming after a second loss in three weeks. The team also waived cornerback Chris Carr. Hartley's job had been in danger for some time. In November, the Saints worked out five kickers, including Graham and Neil Rackers, before making the decision to stand pat. Hartley will always have a special place in franchise history as the kicker for the team's lone Super Bowl champion. His 40-yard field goal ended an NFC Championship Game classic against the Minnesota Vikings in 2010. If Graham is the guy, he'll go directly into the fire. The Saints will visit the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in a showdown that could decide the NFC South. Garrett Hartley waived by New Orleans Saints - NFL.com |

Re: Hartley Released
Chris Carr gone too.
Think Payton has their attention?! New Orleans Saints waive kicker Garrett Hartley | NOLA.com |
Re: Hartley Released
Garrett Hartley and Chris Carr to be exact. No word on replacements as of yet.

Re: Hartley Released
Sweeting? Carr isn't that good, but I don't think he was expected to be. That one smells like one of those Parcells cuts. It has to be Rackers or Graham.

Re: Hartley Released
I'm curious, what's the fan line?
Hartley should have been kept and allowed to kick until he made FGs. or In Sean Payton we trust. |
Re: Hartley Released
Why was Carr cut?
is it it to get a pro-rated (2 game) vet kicker under the cap? |
Re: Hartley Released
Aside from the SB run Hartley has given everyone the red ass. That miss vs. Atlanta a couple of seasons ago is when enough was enough.

Re: Hartley Released
Instant lifetime ban for whoever posts a "shouldn't have released Hartley" thread when the new kicker costs the Saints a game!
|
Re: Hartley Released
They actually did it? Has this been confirmed? Speculations on the next kicker?

Re: Hartley Released
Rackers, Graham, or Dimke?
good FF pickup for the playoffs, anyway |
Re: Hartley Released
Headcase Hartley. Was bound to happen. Something major wrong w/ that dude....
|
Re: Hartley Released
Lets face it, if the new guy sucks worse we can re-sign Hartley. Its not like anyone's gonna pick him up.

Hartley Released
Good luck Hartley where ever you land. No matter how it went, I think you gave us the best you could muster.
I truly hate to see anyone lose their job. Much less 9 days before Christmas. Now... I feel for you; but I'm not all choked up. You made $7 Million as a Saint, and no matter how the FG kicks go for the rest of the season..... My shocks will come if they are missed, not if they are made. |

Yeah, about time. Sign up Graham, he'll be fine. Always been a good kicker.

Re: Hartley Released
Took Sean long enough, that space cadet should have been cut the next day after he had missed that chip shot against Atlanta a couple years ago
|
Re: Hartley Released
I wouldn't mind Rackers or Graham

inside of 40 he pretty automatic his entire career. the main thing is he get the ball up quickly
shame wish Hartley the best. he never was the same after his hip injury. now the bad getting the timing down. |
Re: Hartley Released
Even though he has struggled alot here... Ok for awhile now.. I will never forget the kick that sent us to a superbowl..I jumped up and felt some discomfort after about the 6th jump... yep sprained ankle missed a week a work that sucker hurt lol.. Appreciate the kicks he made plenty of them sadly he missed some important ones.. Payton is sending messages step up or step out.. I like it
