I do not think you can lay the blame on Payton, you have to remember what it was like before he came to the Saints! We were the laughing stock of the NFC . I put most of the blame on an offensive line that can not pass block , can not run block and seems to cause penalties at the worst time . Going to have to do some real soul searching on that offensive line during the off season and come back next year with a more balanced attack and take some of the pressure off of Drew! Just my opinion!

Unfortunately, non of that is going to change until next season so it's on the head coach and play caller (one in the same) to put his players in the best position to succeed. He's not doing that.

I really dont think payton is the problem. The screen is designed to tire out the DL and relieve pressure. Panthers LB's are to quick. The screens were not executed well or blocked well. Same with the run plays.
Really didnt matter what payton called, the offense could not do it anyway.

Then why keep calling them?

Ingram was getting around 8 yds a carry and he gets pulled.

To be fair though he left with a injury for a little bit. By the time he got back in the game we were already playing not to lose so all of the plays called for him at that point were predictable.

I dont think they were called to be honest. Just a theory, but the pressure was so bad, I think they started adding a screen as an option, and Brees used that option instead of throwing down field. I saw the Wr's going down field in patterns and not blocking. So, thats all I can come up with.
If we did call that many screens on purpose, I am wondering more, where was the blocking ? PT was infront of most of the blockers it seemed. Though I might be remembering wrong.

A lot of the screens, the LB's just out ran the blocking linemen. That's what having fast LB's does for you...
