Terron Armstead

Amidst the doom and gloom of losing and the season being over, I think it's being lost that Terron Armstead did a great job last night and he is truly shaping up to be the left tackle that we hoped for! I can smile knowing that Loomis found another mid-round gem for our O-Line!

Re: Terron Armstead

Oh Yes!! He is definitely going to be the LT of the present and future.

Re: Terron Armstead

I didn't hear them mention his name last night. I guess that's a good thing.

We have a left tackle!

Dude next year is going to be even better, I am telling you. We have the beginnings of a really good team

Yep! I don't feel bad about a damn thing. We have the draft and free agency to fine tune this team and be even better next season!

+1. Baring any serious injuries, this team will be in the Super Bowl next season.

Just think how well we did this year with all the injuries :bng:

I had my doubts about armstead, but he made me eat my words.. And I love it

We could use an upgrade at Center and RT, so we'll see how this offseason goes.

True but every team faces key injuries. It's the depth in roster that gives teams the edge down the stretch!

Center for sure. Agreed, and I am sure we may go that route, Kinda interested to see what we do there

We need a playmaking WR also, center is a must

after game one he has only improved and looked down the LT position.

I wouldn't be mad if we replaced the whole offensive line. They almost got Drew killed this year. Im very impressed with our defense though. I really thought with Sean being back that our offense would be rolling though.

I know what you mean and there will be some more rebuilding of the O-Line this offseason. Strief and DLP are now free agents and who knows what we'll do with them. The good news is that left tackle is one of the most important positions in football and Mickey found us one in the 3rd round so he'll be around for cheap for a while!

Really...

we have one weak spot at center... thats it...

What this team needs is a tough #1 WR. A speedy WR won't help because Brees can't throw the ball deep but none of our WR are physical enough now.

As for Jimmy... I just don't think he is worth the money. The word is out on how to lock the guy down. When you get man-handled by a FS thats 5-9 180.... just sad.

Cruize 01-13-2014 02:48 AM

Re: Terron Armstead

The o-line as a whole looked better when they were allowed to run block and the offense was less predictable overall. But, he does seem like the real deal. Plus, as a third rounder, he's cheap.

Re: Terron Armstead

Terron did a great job!

He was thrown in at the deep end and showed he can play his position well and he can only get better! Looking forward to following his progress next season!

We actually didn't have that many, about average. What hurt was losing key players right at the end. Then we had to Jettison a LT and a kicker. Should not be having flagrant LT and kicker problems that late. Go look at the Pats and Panthers rosters, looks like a hospital wing. They lost most of them early so they were able to recover.

I haven't seen the PFF grades but did read he gave up 0 pressures, and rated +4.4 (excellent rating) in the Seattle game and an overall rating of +9.7 in his last 3 games (WOW!!!)

Can anyone with PFF access verify? Those numbers are outstanding, almost too good to be true.

This year's draft class has shaped up to be one of the best we've ever had despite the loss of the round two pick...

S Kenny Vaccaro (A+), OT Terron Armstead (B), NT John Jenkins (A), WR Kenny Stills (A), DE/LB Rufus Johnson (I)

Really, really solid draft class, solace for the playoff defeat...

Armstead graded out best Offensive Player, not just lineman.

Armstead +4.4 (no sk, no hit, no hurry)
DLP +0.9
Grubbs +0.3 (2 QB hurries)
Strief -0.6 (1 sk, 1 hit, 3 hurries)
Evans -2.7 (1 sk, 5 hurries) graded worst offensive player.

This was a big reason why I was so impressed with your offensive line play. Armstead absolutely dominated Chris Clemons who was our best past rusher and defensive player. He is going to be a load next year if he can stay healthy.

This was truly an amazing draft, and it goes back to my theory about it.... I'm convinced that Payton used the forced year off, to scout almost the whole Saints draft from his couch on Saturdays. You look at this draft, and every single one of those guys, were either playing IN Texas, were in the general area around Texas (Arkansas/Oklahoma), or were playing on national TV that he could watch from his couch in his pajamas (Georgia in the SEC). Tiny Tarleton College in Stephenville was not exactly blowing up anybody's recruiting radar, but I'm betting it would have been in Payton's local cable package!

He is definitely a bright spot of the future plans. He will continue to develop, look how he improved in just a few games.

Re: Terron Armstead

Wait till Armstead gets the timing down on those screen plays, he'll absolutely blow up linebackers and defensive backs...

If Ingram can get the rhythm and timing and PATIENCE to allow the wall to develop, oooh Baby, that'll be potent...

So now we don't really need to draft any tackles.... Correct?

Fine, if we could find one about 25years old. We're trying to get younger on the line.

Strief is 30 and in his 8th season. Never played more than 2 games until 2011 when he moved from G to T. 24-26 would be about right.

This. We need help now. Most of the time it takes a rookie a little time and I don't know how much of it we have.

I'm not gonna proclaim him the next Willie Roaf buat he is looking like the best prospect at the position since Jammal Brown.

I think the level of disappointment, is clouding the judgement of some saints fans..... They did a great job in this offseason. You found a CB, a SS, and A LT all in one free agency period, and draft... I would take a repeat of last this last offseason in a heartbeat....

So would I.

Re: Terron Armstead

Well Armstead really came on in his abbreviated season; really like to think Coach Payton learned an invaluable less this season and that is to trust his eyes and let some of these younger players play to get better...

When we took Armstead in the third, I was truly shocked he was still there....

With his athleticism, Armstead could be a monster at right tackle, especially on stretch runs, screens and even TE Bubble routes...

But he's a steal at Left Tackle for a third rounder...

Linebackers running past Strief on our screens and Payton ver. Bubble routes before he could turn and initiate blocks is still in my mind...

That and that Ahmad Brooks hit...
