Reports: Ex-Saint Darren Sharper arrested on rape charges
 

LOS ANGELES, Ca. - Former Saints defensive back Darren Sharper, a prominent member of the Super Bowl winning team in 2010, was arrested Friday on felony charges, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's web site.

Reports from a few other national news and entertainment agencies, including TMZ, say the allegations are for rape incidents that occurred late last year and early in 2014.

Sharper was booked into the L.A. county jail and released on $200,000 bail. A court date has been set for Feb. 14.

Sharper, who played in the NFL with the Vikings, Packers and Saints, currently works for the NFL Network.

“Law enforcement sources tell us the 38-year-old was arrested on Friday — and he’s been linked to 2 sexual assaults … one that occurred in Oct. 2013 and the other in January 2014. The identity of the alleged victim or victims has not been released. Sharper was booked at an L.A. jail — and was released on $200k bail.”

I understand taking him off the tv but the way the statement is put out just looks like the NFL executives have decided he is guilty and got rid.

I question the delay in reporting the October crime and if it is the same woman, why did she see him again?

I hate the thought I am questioning the victim (woman) but could Sharper be the victim?

Its a sad state the world has got to when you do wonder wether a woman would make something like that up.Not many worse crimes to commit or be accused of committing if you are innocent

Sounds like a weak case to me, only 200k bail for such a horrible crime? I understand the NFL Network removing him from TV, but suspended without pay for just an allegation?

In the court of public opinion you are guilty until proven innocent unfortunately. Who knows if he did it or not, I wouldn't put it passed him but it's a shame he has to lose his job before he gets a chance to tell his side.

I dont know if it's something to freak out about. It's not like he was a friend or family member hiding in plain sight who you had let baby sit the kids and gone on vacation together. It's not a reflection on our team. I just think it's rediculous he lost his job without having a chance in court. The NFL could care less if he did it or not they just want to cover their ass like the people at A&e did with duck dynasty.

When people think of rape, a lot of them think of a creeper hiding in the bushes for the unsuspecting female victim to pull up in her car and walk into her house or the creeper waiting behind the tree in the middle of the night for the late night jogger to come strolling by with head phones on.

In reality it could be something like he went out with a woman, they got a little tipsy and decided to go back to her place or to a hotel room. They start messing around, she changes her mind and decides to stop. He won't take no for an answer because he's ready to go or maybe he's got money and used to getting his way, so he just forces himself on her and thinks its no big deal.

That's a rape gentlemen.

That is the unfortunate reality of a charge like this. The accusation is the same as being found guilty with most people. Even if its proven that he was innocent (and I'm not saying he is....), there will be many people who think he got off on a technicality or paid his way to get off on the charge.
Very sad if he is indeed innocent.

My thoughts.

If it's the same woman... WTF?

If it's two different women.... They know each other / collusion.

What are the odds two women that do not know each other and are raped 3-4 months apart come out and report on the same week?

There seems to be too much focus on sharper and zero on the accuser(s).

There is also a new, third allegation from NOLA in September

hoping for the best, but can't see this ending well

As for NFL Network, how can anyone expect a different action? No corporation, especially a media outlet, would NOT distance themselves in this situation

Mating behaviors of humans v.s. the US penal code makes clarifying what is rape and what isn't rape very difficult. Couple that with the fact that women often want aggressive men who aren't afraid to take risks ; you end up with guys trying to be aggressive the girl saying no, then all of a sudden she gets into it and goes along with it.

Knowing that athletes have a lot of $$$, many women can easily turn that initial resistance into a cry of rape. Now whether that happened in this situation, I dunno, but I'm fairly sure it happens quite a bit; especially with the athletes that sleep around a lot with various women regularly. They make themselves a pretty easy target for this kind of extortion.

The reason that Sharper could have so many accusers is he sleeps around a lot. Hell the women could have even made a pact together.

If he did it he's a scumbag, plain and simple. I just reserve judgment because of who he is, and DS isn't a bad looking guy. I can't imagine he has a difficult time getting laid. A rapist doesn't do it once.. so I would think this would have come out before. That said if he did this what a scum.

The worse part of it all is how the court is specifically slanted against the man.
