Saints Offense has to get faster next year
Sean Payton's offense is based on speed at the skill positions - not a big surprise. When we had Devery, Meachem and Bush, we scared opposing defenses. Not anymore. . It seems like our receivers had problems getting open this year, especially against the more talented DB's. That used to not be a problem. Looking back, losing Joe Morgan early was huge - he was shaping up to be our deep threat - hopefully he can come back healthy. A more experienced Kenny Stills will help, as will a healed Jimmy Graham. We really have no "burners" at RB, but Sproles is quick and KR is fast enough. Do the Saints start moving more towards a run-first or balanced offense or do they bring in new personnel at the skill positions to regain our championship form? It will be interesting to see what Loomis & Payton do w the draft and FA to address this.

Re: Saints Offense has to get faster next year
As long as Drew and Sean are at the helm, we'll never be a run-first offense...

Re: Saints Offense has to get faster next year
Absolutely ... Some very hard decision this off season with some key personnel will need to be made. It's a business and I trust SP and ML will make the best decision for the team and that we will say good bye to several fan / key team starters and role players. It was painfully obvious when played playoff caliber teams that our offense did not play near fast enough to get separation on the short to middle routes much less the deep ball. If we don't get faster / younger on both sides of the ball we will stay in the contender not Champions spot.

Yes. It's shocking but this O needs an overhaul or at the very least some major upgrades. We need better run blocking, screen and pass protection. Screens lost yards this year. Ridiculous -- since we aren't a run first team ( and apparently never will be in spite of having 4 running backs ). Notice the contradictions? I think TArmstead is an upgrade but how much of an upgrade next season will tell. We need a kicker ( apparently we signed one ) and a return game.

Not necessarily faster but more physical. Receivers don't have to be fast to create separation, it's all in route running and being able to get off a jam at the LOS.

Re: Saints Offense has to get faster next year
I agree we need more speed at WR but not sure it matters or will help much when 52% of our passing goes to Thomas, Sproles, and Graham. Stills has all the speed we need, but had 32 of 446 receptions.

The game plan became obvious to everyone. Dont run, force the ball to Graham then look to dump off to Sproles if all else fails look elsewhere.
Just mix in more run plays and the receivers will get more seperation.Id like to see Drew back down to under 5000 yards with the running game picking up the slack.More uptempo plays would be good too and with the increase in running would compensate for the time of possession. |

Re: Saints Offense has to get faster next year
Jerry Rice was not that fast so I don't know...speed is great but our problems are much deeper. Blocking and being physical, I can't think of many times this season where I saw a great block or our receivers fighting for balls.
