Loomis Open To Expanding Playoffs
"Loomis, speaking at the Senior Bowl, said he would be in favor of adding another playoff team, and has been for several years. Expanding the postseason field from six teams in each conference is under "serious consideration," according to Goodell.
"I just like the fact that we have more events. I think these playoff games are great events for the city, the communities that they're in. I think it's good for the organization," Loomis said. "The first measure of success is making the playoffs." READ MORE: New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis open to playoff expansion | NOLA.com |
One thing I learned from drinking. You should always go Christmas caroling with a group. Oh, and always in mid-December.

Re: Loomis Open To Expanding Playoffs
If you are going to go with that then make it the top 2 in each division go to the playoffs . Division winners get seeds 1-4 regardless of records and the runners up get ranked with the worst record playing best record of the division winners.
8 of 16 teams making the playoffs doesn't sit right with me though. $50 the Cowboys still find a way to blow it. |

Re: Loomis Open To Expanding Playoffs
Loomis is a business manager and will be all for anything that generates more business. Luckily, his opinion on this topic is irrelevant.
The job of a general manager is to make money. |

Re: Loomis Open To Expanding Playoffs
I guess they're not really concerned with making every regular season game important. If half the league makes the playoffs then it's really not much of an accomplishment.

Re: Loomis Open To Expanding Playoffs
I have seen pros and cons of this.
One of the problems I see in the current format and it has been persistent since the Salary Cap of the mid 90s was put into place is the fact their is a 7th seed team that tends to miss the playoffs that is better than some of the ones that do make it. You can find it every year. This year we saw Arizona finish 10-6 and miss the playoffs, what hurts so bad about this is the fact Arizona would of certainly beat Philly, Carolina, and probably Green Bay, 3 of the 6 NFC playoff teams right there. I dont know what would of happened in New Orleans, Seattle, or SF. Arizona also had the most difficult schedule as well. So you see why theirs part of me that supports the playoff expansion. Shall I mention the fact that the 9-7 Giants won the SB? 9-7 wouldnt of even qualified for a playoff spot this year. Their was times in the Haslett era where we missed the playoffs where I think we could of went in and upset someone, it happens every year, the AFC though.............another subject. I personally believe the seasons rely too heavily on Strength of Schedule though. Teams like Seattle whose SOS is probably pretty down there, especially Road schedule which is where its all at, will get rewarded HFA for it, we see it every year and it decides to me unfairly who gets to play in the big game. They need to change something. |
