I'd almost rather keep him for our 3 and 4 safety sets.
The more I think about it the more I agree. He's a good locker room guy and a leader and has his attributes. He may be bad in coverage but he is solidly above average against the run. When he got back from injury our run defense instantly got better. If we can find someone to start in his place and only use him on obvious running plays or in special situations and still manage to keep him for cheap I'm all for it.

Teams that want a veteran SS on the cheap?

He'd only cost a team about 2.3 million (His bonus portion of the cap stays with us).

We gave up a 7th for Shanle, so while its unlikely, its not out of the question.

For me it's not an issue if he'll do well, it's more like how healthy he'll be.
I don't want him to go either but it is a business and I'm glad he sees it that way.

You know i had to get a dig in there Danno...

I do think if Harper restructures he can be an asset. I dont think he'll start but he can come in on 3 safety sets.

Keep him. The combination of his experience and locker room presence, combined with our recent younger backfield will offer continuance of this excellent defense Rob has created.

He has a sneaky way of getting to the pocket in the blitz and is a great run defender.

There's got to be room for him if he's willing to take a paycheck hit. His mouth says he wants to stay, let's see if he can make that happen.
