Let's hope that plantar fasciitis on BOTH feet doesn't become an issue like last season.

Its Byrd, click the #2 in the picture. Deuce is 6'1", Byrd 5'10". If Loomis stands up he is taller than Byrd

Walter Football's take on the signing...

Saints sign S Jairus Byrd (6 years, $54M; $28M guaranteed): C+ Grade
When it was announced that Jairus Byrd inked a 6-year deal, I wondered what the value of his contract would be. I thought that a pact worth $45 million with $22 million guaranteed would earn the Saints a B+ or maybe a B. I was not expecting $54 and $28 million, respectively.

Byrd is one of the top free agents on the market, but this is too much money for a non-quarterback and non-pass-rusher, especially for a team as strapped for cash as New Orleans. Having said that, Byrd is going from a reeling franchise to a perennial Super Bowl contender, so unlike the free agents who defect for inferior squads, he could be motivated, even in the wake of signing an extremely lucrative contract.

Yeah so we may have over-paid a bit, but so what. I'd say a C+ for value, but an A-plus on talent + need + fit.

And since no one really knows how the contract is structured, how can anyone really know that we overpaid?

And also I just discovered... its Jairus, pronounced Jair-rus, not Jerry-us. I always thought it was Jari-us.:dunce:

People see $56ml and decided it overpaid.

One of the first things I started to learn about by asking on here was the salary cap. Im surprised how many people growing up with a sport do not understand at least the basics of how it works.

The deal for Byrd could have been 5 years $45ml-8 years at $72ml if the gaureteed money is the same who cares. People see the first number and worry.Look at how Oak put thr contract, it fantastic and only has him needing to play 3-4 season snd make his gauretee and then its restructure/cut time.

Ignore total contract $ focus only on guaranteed.

At the end of the day the deal will be evaluated on his success. If he balls out as a top safety it's a win, if he flops it's a loss even if it was a 5m contact.

Honestly folks, I had very little knowledge of how the NFL salary cap worked until I climbed on board to B&G. Lots of intelligent, well informed guys/gals here to educate & enlighten.

As for Byrd, I think the guy balls out of control and Vacarro gets a much needed mentor to develop & polish his cover skills. LOVE the signing.

A re-post...

54 million over 6 years, 28 million guaranteed?

All may not be what it seems. It could be sturctured like...

Year 1..salary 1 million + guaranteed 4.7 = 5.7 million
Year 2..salary 2 million + guaranteed 4.7 = 6.7 million
Year 3..salary 3 million + guaranteed 4.7 = 7.7 million
Year 4..salary 4 million + guaranteed 4.7 = 8.7 million
Year 5..salary 7 million + guaranteed 4.7 = 11.7 million
Year 6..salary 10 million + guaranteed 4.7 = 14.7 million

Care to guess when we ask him to restructure?

I know its likely not structured in that way, but you get the picture. Its more likely a 4 year contract at about 6 to 7 million/year, then restructure or cut in year 5
