Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
1 Attachment(s)
New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for an undisclosed draft pick according to various media reports, ending almost two weeks of reports predicting a parting of ways with the team.
This is the second Saint the Eagles have picked up this week, as they signed former safety Malcolm Jenkins when free agency began Tuesday. The Washington Redskins were also among those interested, according to CBS Sports. Sproles has been reported to be on the trade block since last week, but expressed surprise Tuesday night via Twitter that he would be traded and not released. "WOW!" he tweeted in response to a report about his potential trade. He followed up with "The stuff u find out on twitter." He told ESPN on Wednesday that he would rather be released so he could choose his own landing spot. "I want to get released," Sproles told ESPN. "I don't want to be traded. I don't know where they would send me because I have no control over it and I want to be able to pick. The good thing is none of the teams I'm told they're talking to are terrible. It's more than two. I feel I should have more of an idea later on today." Sproles has been with the Saints since 2011. He ends his Saints career with with 1,067 rushing yards (averaging 5.7 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. He also had 232 receptions for 1,981 yards and 16 TDs. Sproles averaged 8.3 yards per punt return with one punt return for a touchdown and 26.1 yards per kickoff return with the Saints. "He's great player, a great guy, a great friend of mine," teammate Mark Ingram said Sunday. "I just saw him (Saturday). He's doing fine. He's feeling good and excited about moving on to another chapter of his career. "He'll be a great player for somebody else." What did we get
|
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
For a 4th, 5th, or 6th?
|
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
Rumor was we wanted 3rd or 4th. I'd settle for a 5th, but a 3rd or 4th is amazing.

Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
Good fit for Sproles.

@ProFootballTalk: Per league source, Saints get fifth-round pick for Darren Sproles from Eagles.

Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
I am sick!!!!
I just saw the news on the NFL Network. :-( Oh man.....this is HORRIBLE!!!!!! It takes some time to develop a player by draft and to see what you really have. A big name might be a bust. An unknown might be a gem. Best wishes to Sproles. |
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
i like it sort of.
i think its a good spot for him land. better than washington the fact he is in the NFC i still do not like :) now for the pick 3rd - 86 PHI 4th- 118 PHI 5th - 150 PHI and 157 PHI come on home to daddy #86 |

Excellent!! A 5th round pick is fantastic! Well done Mickey!

Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
I'm reading that Shefter said its next years draft. Thats gotta be wrong...
It is, Shefter said 2014. |
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
5th round is better than nothing which we were on track to get if we released him...and lets not forget, Peyton and Loomis are brilliant (or lucky) at finding great talent in the laterrounds of the draft. This also gives us an extra pick to be able to trade up if we need to go get someone in the second or third.

Not too bad for a player woild would likely have been cut either way |
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
something for nothing, and we now drop the cap# and can take another look at Strief and DLP
|
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
So we get 3.5 million in cap space, and get a 5th rounder...

Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
I hope his wife is ok with it
|
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
Another way of looking at this trade. Saints get Byrd (cap hit of $3.5m) and a fifth round selection for Sproles ($3.5m cap hit).
Loomis strikes again. |

It was reported here in Houston as Darren sproles for a 5th
|
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
Some analyst are blasting the move but when New England does it its no harm no foul. Sproles was good but against top flight defenses like Seattle or San Francisco he would do much of nothing. Best of luck to him in Philly but we will be fine with our power run game. Trust in Loomis.

Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
A 5th is better than nothing...

Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
Don't forget traded Ivory for a 4th last year and then used both 4ths to move up for Jenkins. Maybe a case of using two 5ths to move into the 4th.Deep draft going to be talent around.

What could get for Ingram and a 5th?. :clown: |
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
I think the Saints may regret this trade. If they were going to do this why not ship him to the AFC? Me don't likes and me likes most things.

He is only there a year and will line up against the Panthers and Seahawks at home and away at the 49ers. Ageny Sproles is going to put a hurting on them and add some L to there records while we take home advantage |
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
Great landing spot for Sproles. I wish him the best except when he plays us.
A 6th round pick would have made me happy. A 5th makes me ecstatic. I don't know if my body could have taken it if we got a 3rd or a 4th. |
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
Jeff Duncan putting some tweets regarding the decline in Sproles stats.Cant copy from my phone but I said similar last night. The move was needed for the cap room but it was thr right time anyway imo . Better to get a 5th now and $3.5ml in cap relief than notjing next year.

Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
This is a great, great place for Darren to go and they sure can use him. I just wish we had not traded him to another NFC contender. But best of luck to a class guy and a hell of a player.
|
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
Unless he knocks us out the playoffs the NFC may be the bedt place. He is only on a one year deal so far and will play against rival teams (Panthers, Seahawks, 49ers).

Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
We have the Eagles 157th pick.
Its N.E pick they traded to Eagles last year. Via Eagles twitter |
Re: Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles
While he's still very productive, he's over 30, on a short deal, and carries a good salary. We did very well with a 5th round pick for compensation.
