Saints Considering Sidney Rice

According to Ian Rapapapapaport.

Re: Saints Considering at Sidney Rice

Played over 10 games a season once in 4 years and only two 16 game seasons ever.
Too expensive and injury prone.

Re: Saints Considering at Sidney Rice

It's so unfortunate that Rice has had such an injury riddled career. He has some of the best hands and footwork I've ever seen. If we're interested in a 1 year prove it deal for the vets minimum(obviously with incentives), I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on him.

Re: Saints Considering Sidney Rice

Id go with vet minimum as you say.Talk that Seattle wamt him back on less than he was earning.

The guy has good hands and size, I just don't trust his health. Plus, I still think there are a lot of good players at the wr position in the draft. If we do sign him, I would prefer to do so after the draft.

Isn't the Draft loaded with quality receivers?

The question the Saints could be asking is Meachem or Rice?

Was a flat out baller during his Viking days but as of recent years not so much. As others have stated, way too injury prone.

Pass.

We had a ton of money sitting on IR last year- not sure sure the risk is worth the reward with all of the other options out there.

Re: Saints Considering Sidney Rice

We're probably targeting a few veteran WR's. It doesn't mean we won't draft one, or maybe two.

I'm sure Loomis is aware of his injury history. He may be one of those sign after week one guys who we pay week to week.

Saints Considering Sidney Rice

That would be very out of character for the team. We hardly ever bring in veteran WR's... Unless you count bringing back Meachem last year.

Good point. I wonder if it means we plan to move on from Morgan, Meachen and Toon? That basically leaves us with Colston and Stills, and not much else.

I guess... the last vet that had success was David Patten, but his "success" was very limited.

2 year, $3 million deal sounds like a good risk.

Re: Saints Considering Sidney Rice

Dont want him, lets get what we can out of the drafts.

Byrd is not one known to really blast receivers when tackling, Vaccaro and Bush on the other hand! :bng:

I'd rather they draft one but if we are gonna bring in a vet i'd much rather have james jones

Maybe same deal that Nicks got in Indy.

saintsfan1976 03-17-2014 01:23 PM

Re: Saints Considering Sidney Rice

Rice has been in the league 7 years already? Damn, instead of 27 he's probably closer to 31 in WR years...

I wish Preston Parker was still availible. Anyone know why we got rid of him in the first place? And what the hell is the deal with Andy Tanner?

I was shouting for him to get a roster spot last year. Unlucky to be battling out with good players

+1. Apparently he didn't show enough in preseason camp however he showed me enough to make the 53 roster. Still a mystery for me... I think he is with the Pats or another east coast team.

No clue on ATanner.

Let's also try Tanner in replacing Lance Moore. And draft 1 or 2 WR in the 2nd-5th.

The fascination with Andy Tanner is always entertaining to watch.

Re: Saints Considering Sidney Rice

The draft is loaded with WR but that isn't what we do.

We fill wholes in FA and then draft by BPA. Its a gamble. If we end up with a stud and have to cut someone great... if not at lease our whole if filled.

Re: Saints Considering Sidney Rice

Why so high on Tanner? He is cool guy but nothing more than special teams player.

Re: Saints Considering Sidney Rice

I agree with Marching On. I think we're ok on receivers. backfield will be the same, Oline, tight ends, QB, aren't we still talking to Meach? and then draft a good possession receiver and a straight line speed guy in the later rounds.

I don't think he plays special teams.

I don't either. If he did, at some point he would have made the active roster in a Roby-like role.

from wiki:
Over three years from 2010 to 2013, Tanner was repeatedly signed to the practice squad, released, waived, or signed to a reserve/future contract, for a total of 33 roster transactions before he finally made the Saints' opening day roster for the 2013 season. However, after the Saints sustained several defensive injuries in their first regular season game, the Saints again cut Tanner from the roster in favor of linebacker Jay Richardson on September 12, 2013.

My bad. I was thinking about those preseason games when he played on special teams.

From what I remember,he looked real good in preseason. They keep cutting him and bringing him back...he must have something there.
