Joe Horn is 5th in the NFL in receiving right now on pace for 1300+ yards and 10 TDs. Why pay him top 5 money next year (for only one year mind you)? It's not like he's Marvin Harrison (23), or Torry Holt (18), or Randy Moss (not in the top 30).
In fact, over the last 4.5 seasons, it's almost impossible to say Horn has been anything but top 5. Here are the number: Holt - 92 rec. for 1473 yards and 7.6 TDs Harrison - 110 rec. for 1449 yards and 12.7 TDs T.O. - 94 rec. for 1366 yards and 14 TDs Randy Moss - 89 rec. for 1343 yards and 12.7 TDs HORN - 88 rec. for 1255 yards and 8.7 TDs Rod Smith - 93 rec. for 1212 yards and 6.9 TDs Bruce - 79 rec. for 1207 yards and 6.4 TDs Jimmy Smith - 86 rec. for 1162 yards and 6.7 TDs Toomer - 74 rec. for 1130 yards and 5.6 TDs Mason - 82 rec. for 1117 yards and 6.7 TDs Moulds - 84 rec. for 1103 yards and 5.6 TDs Ward - 90 rec. for 1073 yards and 7.3 TDs D Jackson - 67 rec. for 1002 yards and 6.9 TDs K Johnson - 75 rec. for 975 yards and 4.7 TDs McCardell - 77 rec. for 971 yards and 5.8 TDs Coles - 67 rec. for 951 yards and 4.4 TDs Rice - 72 rec. for 916 yards and 5.6 TDs Price - 64 rec. for 915 yards and 5.3 TDs Muhammad - 70 rec. for 898 yards and 4.4 TDs Burress - 57 rec. for 894 yards and 4.7 TDs Conway - 57 rec. for 810 yards and 4.4 TDs T Brown - 74 rec. for 805 yards and 3.8 TDs Glenn - 50 rec. for 697 yards and 3.6 TDs Warrick - 59 rec. for 625 yards and 4 TDs Driver - 45 rec. for 610 yards and 3.8 TDs Thrash - 49 rec. for 607 yards and 3.8 TDs Hakim - 45 rec. for 553 yards and 3.8 TDs Those numbers are AVERAGE annual totals and sorted by yards. There is no doubt that the top 4 are head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. I would probably say over the last 4.5 years you would have to say it's 1. Harrison, 2. T.O., 3. Moss, and 4. Holt. But Horn is AVERAGING the 5th most yards and 5th most scores. As many receptions as Randy Moss and more TDs than Torry Holt. This guy deserves ONE year at a top 5 salary. Not to mention, everyone said he was done last year. Everyone said he was really done this year - well he's top 5 again, so the he's old and wearing down argument just doesn't do it for me. Go Horn! |

Well put. I wonder if we can afford to pay him top dollar. Also depends on if next year is a rebulding year for us with a new coach. Or does the new coach try and win with what he has?
If he chooses to try and win, we have to have Horn for atleast one more year. Sorry, but Neither Devery, Donte, nor Jerome will be replacing Horn any time soon, though that was the plan. |

So lets pay him 75 million. No 80 million, now how about 100 million?
WhoDat, where do you draw the line? I say let a new GM come in and answer that for us. I\'d love to keep Horn but not at the expense of signing other players. He will be rewarded. Besides, I thought you wanted this team to stink it up? If Horn continues to shine and helps us go 8-8, they may keep haslett. C\'mon Joe, drop a few more would ya? LMAO |

I\'m all for keeping good players and losing bad coaches. I am not suggesting the Saints sign Horn to an extension or offer him more money. I am suggesting that they honor their contract to a guy who deserves it more than any other player on the team right now.
When AB wanted more money after his first full season as a starter - when he demanded top 5 money - you said the Saints should give it to him, if I remember correctly. Many people did. He hadn\'t proved himself to be top 5, and still hasn\'t. But many people here said, you signed a contract, you honor it. That is the opinion of the fans every time a player holds out. But when a player lives up to his end of the brgain, when he plays like a top 5 WR for less than 1 million dollars (this season), and then wants the team to honor the contract they offered him, you say cut him. Want to free up money for other players? Cut Sullivan. Keep your stars. |

Now maybe we can try him at CB like NE is doing with Brown. Anything should help the D... anything. Put Karney in at LB and let him take on opposing FBs. Now that would be great!

I love the Karney at LB switch. It would be fun to watch, and it\'s not much of a risk considering the play of our LB\'s right now. How bout these others to try and make a spark. This is fantasy of course. Two fullback set with Karney and Sullivan as the fullbacks both blocking for Deuce. Donte Stallworth at free safety. Victor Riley as assistant Equipment manager. any others?

Pay Horn his tribute, but don\'t break the bank. There\'s only one player on staff who we need to break the bank for, and he has a big ol\' #26 on his chest.
(and I have a bad feeling we won\'t give him enough for long term, from the comments of our idiot GM this year) |
