Report: NFL considering banning goal post dunk
Thank you Jimmy Graham!
Tony Gonzalez started it. Jimmy Graham made it popular. Roger Goodell may end it. A source tells Profootballtalk.com that the league is considering banning “the practice of dunking the ball over the crossbar” — a.k.a. the goal post dunk. The topic is expected to be discussed during next week’s NFL owners meetings in Orlando. While the NFL has clamped down on touchdown celebrations, abolishing props being used during the act, the goal post dunk and Lambeau Leap were two exceptions. As PFT points out, however, Graham likely raised a few eyebrows last season, when one of his dunks knocked the crossbar off kilter, resulting in a stoppage of play. Thanks to that single malfunction, we may never again see the practice of dunking the ball over the crossbar. Hey, they don’t call it the “No Fun League” for nothing.
