Addressed above...I won't pretend to know everything about how this works but I know they can't just "erase" money from the books. It has to be moved around some way or another, whether it's in the form of a signing bonus in a restructure or dead money in an outright release. Think about your high school accounting class or whatever - the debits have to match up with the credits.

I think the term "paycut" is misleading here. It's not the players actual "pay" that's getting cut, it's his cap figure. Which obviously has no bearing on the total amount of money he brings home that season. I don't even think it's possible for any of us fans to understand all the ins and outs of the cap. There are so many provisions and loopholes that we don't even know about. |
