Jamal Charles 1200 yards and 12 TDs 4.7m/year 13th highest average salary.
Exactly! The Saints would be insane to pick up his option.

That'll only happen with an Ingram focused offense. Same thing as saying that's not gonna happen with the Sean n Drew show. Even though RB centered offenses make it to the playoffs and even Superbowl every year... every other year... every decade... every...

Re: Mark Ingram not confident Saints will pick up his 5th-year option

Sorry Mark, you're just not worth it. I want every player we draft or sign to become great. However, I'm not blind and with my experience of being a Saints fan from day 1 of the franchise, I know bad football and mediocre players when I see them. 5 mil for 400 yards is a ridiculous amount of money for what Ingram has done. This guy has played 3 years and has only gone over 100 yards twice and once in the 80-90 yard mark. Nothing personal against Ingram but he just isn't what we need. Look at Ivory who was an UDFA who consistently out ran Ingram, look at Khiry Robinson who has consistently out run Ingram, Look at PT who has consistently out run Ingram and even look at Cadet. These backs have all run behind the same O-Line, and Ingram has consistently come up short, no pun intended, lol. Mark has no one to blame but himself for his short comings, again no pun intended, lol, but it's time for us to move on. No matter how much any of us wants Ingram to "Break Out", odds are, it's just not gonna happen.

Nonsense, again.

He came on at the end of the season, he played very well and I hope he continues to play at that level, but he doesn't deserve a big contract based on the last 4 or 5 games of a 3 year span.

Re: Mark Ingram not confident Saints will pick up his 5th-year option

he should be worried. so far he has not earned the money he has gotten or showed any value for the picks used to draft him. talent is there for sure. injury bug and probably the offense he is trapped in contribute greatly to his drop in worth to this team.

he has to prove he fits in or the saints need to cash in their chips and get whatever they can for him. Or let him walk as a FA.

so far he is just a mistake. saints and ingram are not a match made in heaven so far.

So if we don't pick it up, can we still resign him at a lower salary?

Yes, which is why its not a big deal.

The only risk is he may decide to test the waters, which doesn't really hurt us considering how we use RB's.

There's really no question... Let him go after this season. With our penchant for undrafted RB's there's no reason to pay him millions to keep him around. He's not gonna light it up this season... Even Bill Parcells has been telling Payton that Khiry Robinson is the truth and that will probably be the direction Payton wants to go in.
