Mark Ingram not confident Saints will pick up his 5th-year option
The New Orleans Saints' 2011 first round draft pick, running back Mark Ingram is about to wrap up his fourth year in the league in 2014. Where he'll be in 2015 is currently up in the year as the team has until May 3rd to exercise their option for a fifth year.
The team already exercised defensive end Cam Jordan’s option, and Ingram isn't feeling too confident the Saints will do the same for him. Time is running it out. “I’m not sure if they will pick up the fifth-year option,” Ingram said, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “I’m just working one day at a time and I’m just glad I’m on a team that’s a championship contender.” Mark Ingram not confident Saints will pick up his 5th-year option |

Smart guy, the option will not be picked up and it has nothing to do with Ingram.

from a production standpoint, he has been overpaid for 3 years. Five million for 400 yards? I'd pass

It's his "show me" year. But my how the mighty RB position has fallen in today's NFL.

Lets say he has a break out year...
Whats the numbers look like to keep him? Is it even a money issue? |

$5m is top 10 RB He has to break 1000 yards and 7 or better TDs to get into the top 13 RBs. He has averaged 3 TDs and 500 yards. Jamal Charles 1200 yards and 12 TDs 4.7m/year 13th highest average salary. |
Re: Mark Ingram not confident Saints will pick up his 5th-year option
Sorry Mark, you're just not worth it. I want every player we draft or sign to become great. However, I'm not blind and with my experience of being a Saints fan from day 1 of the franchise, I know bad football and mediocre players when I see them. 5 mil for 400 yards is a ridiculous amount of money for what Ingram has done. This guy has played 3 years and has only gone over 100 yards twice and once in the 80-90 yard mark. Nothing personal against Ingram but he just isn't what we need. Look at Ivory who was an UDFA who consistently out ran Ingram, look at Khiry Robinson who has consistently out run Ingram, Look at PT who has consistently out run Ingram and even look at Cadet. These backs have all run behind the same O-Line, and Ingram has consistently come up short, no pun intended, lol. Mark has no one to blame but himself for his short comings, again no pun intended, lol, but it's time for us to move on. No matter how much any of us wants Ingram to "Break Out", odds are, it's just not gonna happen.
