Re: UDFA Signings
DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) – Thanks to Michigan State defensive tackle Micajah Reynolds, an 18-year-old Lansing man is expected to survive life-threatening gunshot wounds to the head, arm and body that were sustained in what police believe was an attempted robbery.
Reynolds was driving home in the early morning hours of July 31 when a teenager flagged him down. Reynolds saw the individual had been shot and stopped to help. “Nobody else was around, and he was bleeding pretty badly,” Reynolds said at Michigan State’s media day Monday. “I whipped my car around in the middle of the street and jumped out and ran over to him and helped him out. I put pressure on his wounds and stuff. He had been shot in the head. I’ve still got my shirt and all my clothes over at the house that are completely drenched in his blood and stuff. Thank God he made it.” Reynolds recounted his conversation with the 18-year-old, whom he tried to comfort as he tried to stop the teenager’s bleeding. “I’m holding him, cradling him and putting pressure and telling him, ‘Hey, everything is going to be OK, everything is going to be all right,’” Reynolds said. “He’s telling me, ‘I’m dead,’ and I said, ‘You’re not dead, you’re sitting here talking to me. You’re gonna be fine, just hang on, just keep fighting.’ I felt like I was spotting someone on the bench and being like, ‘Man, you can do it. Just relax and keep going. You got it and all that.’ Thankfully, he made it. I haven’t really spoken to the family since I’ve been in camp and stuff. He was stable and everything the last time I checked.” As much as players are focused on football, with the season just weeks away, the incident gave Reynolds a different view. “I didn’t sleep for a couple days, just because it made me consider life is delicate,” Reynolds said. “Life is so delicate. You don’t think about things like that happening until it’s happened. Just thinking, I was like, ‘What if my son would’ve been in that situation? Would somebody else have stopped?’ Thankfully, he made it and everything, but it makes you consider and be thankful and so grateful for everything that you’re given.” |

Re: UDFA Signings
Local Boy
WR JE'RON HAMM LOUISIANA-MONROE SUN BELT GRADE 5.0 6'3" HEIGHT 33" ARM LENGTH 236LBS. WEIGHT 9 1/4" HANDS ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Outstanding size for the WR position. Competitive run blocker. Has a 37-inch vertical jump and good body control and leaping ability to adjust to the ball in the air. Can extend outside his frame and make the difficult catch. Runs hard after the catch and can push a pile and usually falls forward. Can challenge linebackers in coverage. Tough and durable. Has special teams experience. WEAKNESSES Small, inconsistent hands. Struggled to uncover vs. better competition (see Oklahoma). Is not sudden coming out of his breaks and builds to speed. Is not a vertical threat outside. Limited creativity and vision after the catch. Could stand to improve his weight-room strength (bench-pressed 225 pounds only 15 times at his pro day). DRAFT PROJECTION Priority free agent BOTTOM LINE Excellent-sized possession receiver slowed by injury and instability at the QB position as a senior, forcing his production to drop off heavily. Projects best to the H-Back position in the pros, where he could compete for a job as a "move" blocker and underneath target. Revisiting junior tape will give a truer indication of his ability. |

#Saints signed USC DT George Uko as a rookie free-agent. DE GEORGE UKO USC PAC-12 Photo of George Uko COMBINE RESULTS GRADE 5.07 4,99 SEC 18 REPS 29,5 INCH 110,0 INCH 6'3" HEIGHT 33 1/4" ARM LENGTH 284LBS. WEIGHT 10 1/8" HANDS OVERVIEW Parade All-American as a California prep. Redshirted in 2010. Was part of the defensive line rotation in 2011, seeing action in 12 games (two starts) and recording 18 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks with one pass batted and two forced fumbles. Was a full-time starter in 2012, posting 31 tackles, nine tackles for loss and five sacks with one pass batted and one forced fumble. Started three at defensive tackle and one at left defensive end before moving to the nose tackle spot for the final nine games. Recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown at UCLA. Made all 14 starts at right defensive end in 2013 and tallied 36 tackles, seven tackles for loss and five sacks with one forced fumble. Did not perform the shuttles at the combine because of a back injury. ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Plays with leverage and generally stays on his feet. Flashes the ability to shoot his hands inside, extend and stack. Nice versatility, having played end and tackle. WEAKNESSES Average foot athlete with lower-body stiffness. Exposes his frame and struggles to escape. Needs to develop counters and pass-rush moves — hands are more active than forceful. Does not dominate single blocks. Has tweener traits -- lacks ideal bulk and anchor for DT and ideal speed and flexibility for DE. Disappears for stretches. Managed just 18 bench press reps at the combine. DRAFT PROJECTION Round 7-Priority free agent BOTTOM LINE Good-sized defensive lineman who shows in flashes, but not enough to justify leaving school early, as he looked very average against strong offensive lines. Could warrant late-round consideration as a developmental base end. |

OLBSPENCER HADLEYBYU IA INDEPENDENTS
I think its 1983 http://static.nfl.com/static/content...ts/2549902.jpg GRADE 4.75 6'1" HEIGHT 28 3/4" ARM LENGTH 228LBS. WEIGHT 9" HANDS ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Very good movement skill. Outstanding agility -- clocked 4.12-second 20-yard shuttle time and 6.75 3-cone drill time at the pro day. Good instincts. Highly competitive and consistently shows up at the ball. Sacrifices his body around piles and has an all-out special teams mentality. Good football intelligence. WEAKNESSES Is very small by NFL standards with extremely short arms. Has coverage limitations and is not natural moving in reverse. Lacks the length to leverage the edge and gets chewed up by blockers. Was slowed by a knee injury as a senior, and durability could continue to be an issue. Is over-aged. Did not play on special teams (because of defensive value). DRAFT PROJECTION Priority free agent BOTTOM LINE Lined up as an 3-4 outside linebacker in college, but projects as a a run-and-hit, fast-flowing weakside linebacker in a 4-3 defense in the pros. Below-the-line size and arm length, age and injury history will force him to make it as an undrafted free agent. His ticket will have to come on special teams. |

A centre
C MATT ARMSTRONG GRAND VALLEY ST. GREAT LAKES GRADE 5.12 40y 5.36 SEC 6'2" HEIGHT 33" ARM LENGTH 302LBS. WEIGHT 10 5/8" HANDS OVERVIEW Two-way lineman who also excelled in track and field as a Michigan prep. Redshirted in 2008. Started 11-of-13 games played in '09 -- one at left tackle, four at left guard and the final six at center. Sustained a concussion midseason, which kept him out of two games and prevented him from starting three others. Started all 12 games played in '10 (seven at right tackle, five at center). Did not play against Lake Erie (right quad). Sat out '11 -- tore cartilage in his left knee and required bone graph surgery. Started all 12 games in '12, including 11 at right guard and one at center. Moved to the pivot in '13, started all 15 games and won the Division II Rimington Award as the nation's top center. Had surgeries after the season to remove bone spurs in his ankle and tighten his shoulder joint. Strained his right quad running the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and did not lift because of a right shoulder injury. Also competed in track at field (throws) at GVSU. ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Has large hands. Good strength. Nice snap-and-step quickness. Works his hips and maneuvers to gain positioning. Can bend and slide. Can combo block and step to the second level. Smart, aware and competitive. Has played all along the offensive line. Four-year starter. WEAKNESSES Size is just adequate and does not look the part. Fleshy midsection. Could struggle to drop anchor vs. powerful widebodies. Not explosive. Plays short-armed. Hand use needs work -- does not punch or jolt defenders. Latches on and stalemates rather than driving his man off the line. Has been dinged up. Marginal competition. Will be a 24-year-old rookie. DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 6-7 BOTTOM LINE Adequate-sized, smart, strong, scrappy, decorated Division II center who lacks exceptional athletic traits for the pro game. Faces a big jump in competition, but has a chance to stick as a swing backup if his versatility translates. Also competed in track and field (throws shot put), which affected his year-round football training. |

Saints sign Valdosta State WR Seantavious Jones atherine Terrell @Kat_Terrell 24s Seeing tweets about the signing of Valdosta State WR Seantavious Jones. Nothing concrete though Ramon Antonio Vargas @RVargasAdvocate 28s League source confirms Valdosta State WR Seantavius Jones has agreed to a UDFA deal with the #saints. WR SEANTAVIUS JONES VALDOSTA ST. GULF SOUTH GRADE 4.98 6'3" HEIGHT 209LBS. WEIGHT OVERVIEW 2013: First-team all-Gulf South selection. Set a school record with six touchdown receptions against Delta State. 2012: First-team All-Gulf South selection. Started in 14 games and had 13 touchdown receptions (good for sixth most in school history). 2011: Second-team All-Gulf South selection after starting in all 10 games. 2010: Played in all 11 games. ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Good size and length with room for added bulk. Tracks, adjusts and plucks. Competes in the air and can run under the ball when he has a step. Football smart. Productive three-year starter for a top Division II team -- 26 TDs the last two seasons. Very solid pro day, posting a 38 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 6.96-second three-cone drill-time. WEAKNESSES Needs to bulk up and get stronger. Limited physicality for his size. Vulnerable to the jam. Shaky hands (too many drops). Tight through the hips. Movement is somewhat mechanical and will struggle to create separation vs. man coverage. Builds to average speed. Should be a better blocker. DRAFT PROJECTION Round 7-Priority free agent BOTTOM LINE Unsudden, West Coast possession target who will have to prove he can consistently separate versus better competition |
Re: UDFA Signings
I don't see Hadley working out or the USC guy. He could not stop the run well enough to me and not good at tackling once a player got a few yards.

NW Missouri State CB Brian Dixon tweets he's headed to Saints CBBRIAN DIXON NORTHWEST MISSOURI ST. MID-AMERICA GRADE 4.85 6'0" HEIGHT 32 5/8" ARM LENGTH 196LBS. WEIGHT 9" HANDS ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Outstanding size and stature. Has a thick musculature and a frame to add bulk. Good straight-line speed and press strength to function in short areas. Flashes striking ability. Tough, competitive and very durable. Has free safety experience. WEAKNESSES Average eyes, instincts and anticipation. Leaky tackler. Very tight-hipped. Recorded a poor 4.59-second 20-yard shuttle time at his pro day, indicating very limited lateral agility. DRAFT PROJECTION Priority free agent BOTTOM LINE A big, strong, press corner with a chance to compete for a job in the boundary for a predominantly press-cover defense, though lack of fluidity could always be a liability. His brother was drafted by the jets |
Re: UDFA Signings
Derrick Strozier @D_Stro13 1m
God is good. Next stop.. Saints rookie camp #WhoDat Draft Scout Derrick Strozier News 10/14/13 - WEEK 7 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: The Defensive award went to a Tulane DB Derrick Strozier for the third straight week. Strozier came up with one of the biggest plays in Tulane's 36-33 triple overtime win against East Carolina. With the Green Wave clinging to a 9-6 advantage late in the third quarter, ECU had driven to the Tulane three-yard line with a chance to tie the game or take the lead. However, on first down, Strozier stepped in front of a Pirates receiver and intercepted a pass at the one-yard line and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown. It was second-longest interception return for a touchdown in school history. Strozier also added eight tackles (five solo), including one stop for minus-three yards, and was credited with a pair of pass breakups. Strozier becomes the first player to win weekly awards at two different positions since Marquese Wheaton of Southern Miss won Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week in a three-week span in October 2011. - Conference USA football 10/07/13 - WEEK 6 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tulane DB Derrick Strozier made history in last week's 24-21 victory over North Texas, becoming the first player in the 119-year history of Tulane football to return a blocked field goal for a touchdown. Green Wave sophomore Darion Monroe blocked a 38-yard attempt from North Texas' Zach Paul and Strozier picked up the loose ball and race 62-yards untouched for a third-quarter touchdown that gave Tulane a 14-7 lead. Strozier also added a team-best seven tackles on the day. - Conference USA football 10/28/12 - WR Derrick Strozier (hand) did not play against UAB. 09/30/12 - Derrick Strozier made his first career start on offense when he began the game against Louisiana-Monroe at running back. Strozier started eight games as a safety a year ago. 09/05/12 - SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: The absence of top rusher Orleans Darkwa (high ankle sprain) no doubt contributed to the absence of a running game in the opener, but the Green Wave has to find a way to run the ball better with or without Darkwa. The burden will be on an offensive line that featured four players making their first starts in the opener. Ryan Grant's 100-yard receiving game was encouraging, but the passing game needs to have a respectable running game to work with. PLAYERS TO WATCH: RB Derrick Strozier -- Although Tulane had only eight yards rushing last week, Strozier, a converted cornerback, contributed to the offense by catching six passes for 40 yards. - The Sports Xchange |

Looks like another Valdosta State player is coming to the Saints. Lawrence Virgil, a DE joins Seantavious Jones DT LAWRENCE VIRGIL VALDOSTA ST. GULF SOUTH GRADE 5.14 6'5" HEIGHT 34 1/2" ARM LENGTH 287LBS. WEIGHT 9 1/2" HANDS ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Excellent size -- has a big, well-proportioned frame with long arms and room for added bulk. Rare upper-body strength -- pumped 225 pounds 39 times at his pro day. Flashes the ability to jolt blockers. Moves well for his size -- opens up his stride in space and athleticism shows in pursuit. Has a 31-inch vertical. Durable three-year starter. Hardworking and respected. WEAKNESSES Exposes his frame and is too easily engaged. Can play with more consistent leverage. Technique needs to be coached up -- needs to learn to shoot his hands, stack and shed. Two-gap ability is a work in progress. Marginal lateral agility displayed in three-cone drill time (7.77 seconds). Did not consistently dominate marginal competition. Inconsistent intensity. DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 6-7 BOTTOM LINE Big, long-levered, Division II prospect with intriguing dimensions, strength and upside to warrant consideration as a developmental five-technique or perhaps three-technique. Is fairly raw and still growing into his body, but should only get stronger and more effective as he fills out his frame and makes technical strides. |
