Now this one may be worth a watch
Saints Nation Blog @SaintsNationBlg 1m this will make many of you happy. Saints sign WR Brandon Coleman of Rutgers WR BRANDON COLEMAN RUTGERS AAC COMBINE RESULTS GRADE 5.31 40y 4.56 SEC bench 21 REPS Top Performer vert 32.5 INCH 3 cone 7.33 SEC 20y shuttle 4.51 SEC 6'6" HEIGHT 34" ARM LENGTH 225LBS. WEIGHT 9 1/4" HANDS OVERVIEW Receiver-safety who also played basketball as a Maryland prep. Redshirted in 2010. Played all 13 games in each of his three seasons. Started five games in 2011 and recorded 17 receptions for 552 yards (32.5-yard average) and six touchdowns. Started nine games in 2012 and had 43 catches for 718 yards (16.7) and 10 TDs. Had off-season surgery on his right knee, which kept him out of 2013 spring practice and reportedly affected his play as a junior. In the fall, started all 13 contests and produced 34 catches for 538 yards (15.8) and four TDs. Team captain. ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Outstanding size and body length -- presents a big target. Long arms enable him to slap away and swim off the jam. Covers ground with long strides. Tracks over his shoulder. Can post up smaller defensive backs. Has playmaking ability -- averaged nearly 22 yards per catch and scored on one out of every five catches over three seasons. Has sheer size to shield as a blocker. Team captain. WEAKNESSES Not an elite athlete. Has some buildup -- does not accelerate off the jam. Lacks big-time, explosive speed to blow by cornerbacks. Route running needs refinement. Not a confident hands catcher -- lets throws into his body and drops balls he shouldn’t. Shows some stiffness through his torso and is linear after the catch -- gears down to cut and elusiveness is limited. Marginal special-teams utility. DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 3-4 BOTTOM LINE Big, tall, talented, West Coast receiver whose sheer size enables him to be effective outside the numbers, on slant routes and in the red zone, though inconsistency has prevented him from reaching his potential. Has the look of a No. 2 receiver, but his production fell off as a junior (played through a knee injury). He could have used another season to polish his skills. |

WEIGHT 9 1/2" HANDS OVERVIEW The native of Hamburg, Germany, arrived in the United States in 2007 as part of the USA Football International Student Program; although he had played American football (he was a tight end for the German under-19 national team at the 2006 European Championships), he spoke limited English. After playing for a New Hampshire prep school for two years, he enrolled at Boston College and redshirted as a freshman in 2009. Played in 13 games in '10, including four starts at defensive end, and had 13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and zero sacks with one pass batted. Started 12 games in '11 and had 27-.5-0 with five passes batted. In 11 starts in '12, he registered 59-7.5-1.5 with four passes batted and one forced fumble. Missed the Clemson game with a shoulder injury. Had a solid senior season in '13, starting all 13 games and tallying 67-14-9.5 with five passes batted and three forced fumbles. Team captain. ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Good get-off. Shows an arm-over to defeat tackles. Has some disruptive ability to penetrate gaps. Reads plays and locates the ball. Uses his arms to create room to operate. Good motor in pursuit -- forces runs outside and chases to the boundary. Strong tackler. Tries to disrupt passing lanes. Intelligent and articulate. Hardworking, well-respected captain with a professional approach to the game. Three-year starter. Graded very highly vs. Ohio State. WEAKNESSES Lacks ideal size. Overpowered at the point of attack. Pops up off the snap. Needs to develop pass-rush moves and use his hands more violently. Average flexibility, foot speed and change of direction -- exposed in space and shows when he runs the arc. Power element missing. Will be a 24-year-old rookie. DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 6-7 BOTTOM LINE High-motor, effort-based pass rusher who could warrant developmental consideration as a situational 4-3 rush end or stand-up 3-4 linebacker. Is not a natural, physically gifted hunter, but football smarts, competitiveness and effort give him a chance. |

Kicker Sergio Castillo of Buffalo is also coming to compete in Saints camp West Texas A&M's Castillo wins Mitchell Award December 18, 2013|By David Haugh | Tribune reporter Before every field goal during his historic senior year, West Texas A&M kicker Sergio Castillo followed the same ritual. Castillo carefully walked off the distance from the holder, thrust his hips twice into the air to loosen up, took two deep breaths and repeated his favorite Bible verse from Galatians 2:20. It is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me. By the time Castillo finished repeating those words, he was done feeling any pressure, too. “The way I interpret that is I’m not the one kicking, He is the one kicking for me so that gives me so much confidence I just relax,’’ Castillo said. “It works for me. I started saying it last year when I was struggling mentally and it made a big difference.’’ As a result, Castillo made a major impact on college football, setting a Division II record for career points with 437. Castillo’s legacy also will include the 2013 Fred Mitchell Award he received Wednesday that goes to the nation’s top place-kicker in FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA for excellence on the field and in the community. Named for esteemed longtime Chicago Tribune sports columnist Fred Mitchell, the All-American place-kicker from Wittenberg University, the award went to Castillo out of a field of more than 750 kickers. Mitchell officially will present Castillo with the honor Feb. 17, 2014, during the National Football Foundation Chicago Metro Chapter Awards ceremony at Halas Hall. “He embodies all that is good about college athletics,’’ head coach Mike Nesbitt said. “His hard work, discipline and outstanding character sets him apart from anyone else.’’ On the field, the native of La Joya, Texas (pop. 4,000) helped the Buffs go 11-3 by hitting 24 of 30 field goals this season and 62 of 79 in his career – including a long of 56. Off the field, the son of Mexican immigrants earned a bachelor’s degree in history quickly enough to begin post-graduate work in education – all while committing himself to the community of Canyon, Texas. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes member volunteered weekly as a mentor to troubled youth, spoke regularly to at-risk high school students and spearheaded a toy drive for children in Juarez, Mexico. “That’s why we’re put in this world, to give and show there is life out there beyond football and you can accomplish whatever you want no matter what your background is,’’ Castillo said. “I want to show kids that anything is possible.’’ Castillo considers himself living proof. He is the first member in his family from any generation to attend college, a distinction that filled him with a sense of pride and responsibility. From the first day he walked onto campus, every step brought him closer to the objective growing up poor made obvious at an early age. “The number one goal was education because we struggled economically,’’ Castillo said. “We never saw it as, 'Oh feel sorry for us.' We embraced it. I didn’t want the lifestyle my parents had because they struggled. I never saw it as pressure but embracing the journey.’’ That meant enjoying every minute of it for the guy who is as affable as he was accurate. Whether kidding around with teammates as a team leader during the Buffs’ playoff run or wearing his trademark fluorescent orange spikes, Castillo’s vibrant personality left an impression. “In the beginning when I first started wearing those bright shoes everybody gave me a hard time but once they saw I still did my job, that was all that mattered,’’ Castillo said. That’s all that will matter to pro scouts gauging whether Castillo can fulfill a lifelong dream of kicking in the NFL next year. He says he looks forward to showing teams at West Texas A&M’s Pro Day later this winter that his range extends to 67 yards. And if the NFL doesn’t work out, Castillo would get a kick out of becoming a high school principal and using his example to inspire students. “I really believe if you put in the hard work, you reap what you sow,’’ Castillo said. “And God takes care of the rest.’’ |

Pierre Warren Agrees To Sign With Saints
JACKSONVILLE – While most prospects were anxiously waiting to learn if they would be selected in the final round of the NFL Draft, safety Pierre Warren already knew where he would wind up. He agreed to sign with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent during the final round of this year’s draft. “(The Saints) called before the draft was over and asked, if I don’t get drafted, if I wanted to sign a free agent deal with them,” Warren said. “It seemed like the best deal so I took it.” Warren declared for the draft after his junior season at Jacksonville State. He earned the reputation as a hard-hitting ballhawk as he finished as the Gamecocks’ second leading tackler with 76 and led JSU with five interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Even so, those statistics weren’t enough for an NFL team to draft him. But even in hindsight, Warren still feels he made the right decision. “I miss my old teammates,” he said, “but I left to get a chance to play in the league and that’s what I got. I still feel I made the right choice.” As Warren says farewell to his old teammates at JSU, he is preparing to be greeted by another former Gamecock. Defensive back A.J. Davis signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Saints in 2012. The two played together in the Gamecock’s secondary in 2011. Davis called their reunion “a blessing.” “I found out about it when I got on Twitter,” Davis said. “I saw a lot of retweets and stuff. I was in my apartment when he told me. I was really excited when I heard he was coming down here. He’s somebody I’m actually familiar with, somebody I played with and actually hung out with in in college. I guarantee you we’ll be doing the same here.” Walking into an NFL locker room as an undrafted free agent can be intimidating. Warren is walking into an almost perfect situation. Davis will be there to help ease his transition to the NFL. According to Davis, the Saints made him feel “really comfortable” when he was in Warren’s shoes in 2012. “This is a real good organization from the top man on down,” Davis said. “The owner, the coaching staff, they do a real good job of making a lot of guys feel like family. I think Pierre will fit right in with the defensive scheme that we run.” The duo combined for 65 tackles, five interceptions, and three fumble recoveries in 2011. If they are able to recapture some of their chemistry, Saints’ quarterbacks could be in for a surprise when training camp opens in summer. “I’m real excited for this chance to play at the next level,” Warren said. “I think it’s going to be good playing with A.J. again. We had a good season together before so hopefully we keep that going. |

Brian Dixon, CB, Northwest Missouri State
interesting pick up. look forward to seeing this kid in camp he was one of the players i always ended up reading on leading up to the draft. still try to figure out all the safety signings. i thought maybe one at the most two for the entire draft process but this is crazy. |

Not a UDFA but
Adam Caplan @caplannfl 2m G Mike Golic Jr. has agreed to a 2-year deal with the #Saints. Spent some time last year with the Steelers. Was one of the last players cut when Steelers cut to 53 |
Re: UDFA Signings
We'll get an OL or two closer to the season when tough cuts are made. We have our set 5 and more depth can be found then. I would have liked an OL earlier(Dozier!), but it's not that big of a deal. Maybe Marcel Jones takes a step forward and becomes a solid swing tackle. It's apparent our staff doesn't feel it's that big of an issue either and they seem to know what they're doing.

Re: UDFA Signings
Mike Golic? he was a best if i remember right. one of those fast rising UDFA that did not make into the 7th, cool

Re: UDFA Signings
Mike Golic Jr., center/guard (6-4 3/8, 300) — The younger Golic ran a 4.56 and 4.58, did a 4.88 in the short shuttle and a 7.77 in the three-cone, posted 31 strength reps, a 28-inch vertical jump and 8-10 broad jump, and had a good workout overall. His father, eight-year NFL veteran Mike Golic, was in attendance and was very excited to see his son perform well.
