Then it get's fuzzy. Jean-Baptiste will either be #6 or on "IR" when the last cuts hit camp

SJB makes before Sweeting that's another brainer

Are you saying that I shouldnt assume a player has potential from his highlight plays?

I'm saying take highlight tapes with a HUGE grain of salt, everyone looks good in them.

I don't know if it's a brainer or not. I know that Sweeting has been training with Lewis this off-season and that many consider Jean-Baptiste to be a raw football player.

Re: Cornerback

I don't consider having a lot of cornerbacks to be the same thing as being stacked. Many of those guys are just scrap heap players, and Champ Bailey, until he proves otherwise, is just an old dude with a famous guy's name. I'm hoping that in a complimentary role Champ will prove valuable, and that might very well be the case. But again, he must prove it first. After that, it's just Keenan, the enigmatic duo of Robinson and White, and a very talented but unproven Stan Jean-Baptiste. I feel better about our corner situation, but I don't see us as being stacked at this point. If a couple guys work out, then I'd say we have a little depth, and that is good enough for me.

Stacked?????? I would not go that far

PRob is the wild card. I he bounces back he is a pretty solid #2 opposite Lewis. Still think champ is a players coach and not much more.

As for the rest all about depth really. to be honest a bunch of nickle and dimes guys that have yet to prove there worth on the outside.

Corey White - showed last year he still has some learning to do. I love his game but he was made the fool more than once.

Rod Sweeting - is just what he is, smart keeps plays in front of him and minimizes damage and takes only calculated risk. that is what a #5 CB is suppose to do.

Stanley Jean-Baptiste - wish people would calm down about the kid. 2 years on defense and still has a lot to learn. If the football IQ is there the up side is as high as almost any CB in the draft. tell ya you are going to hate this kid in off coverage right now. man coverage only and up at the line. that in itself is a major risk. he misses the jam he is chase mode. let just admit he aint the quickest CB in the draft. that is were football IQ is key and the coaches not asking him to do to much.

Mystery Inc.
Derrius Brooks/AJ Davis/Trevin Wade

High on the wish list next year CB. next year looks to be than this year.

Need a quick twitch of the slot and maybe a CB opposite Lewis.

Hellva good problem to have, also a lot of battles all of a sudden, makes for a better product if you ask me.

Keeping in mind that we have invested significant money into the safety position and being able to play 3 safeties much of the time, it seems unlikely we keep all these guys
four safeties seems to be the plan... Byrd, Vaccaro, Bush... and a battle between the Canadian/and Vinny Sunnseri for that last safety position

White - IMO, most of the criticism of him is complete nonsense. Once he became the starter, it took like 1 1/2 games for him to get his feet under him. After that he was everything you would expect from a good #2 corner. My guess is he is safe, if for no other reason that he's cheap. He's got to be one of the best performance/value players on the team.
Ditto, he got thrust into the #2 role, and performed admirably in his time there, everything with him depends on Robinson's health, and how fast SJB can transition from college wideouts to NFL ones....

Quote:

Bailey - Let's be honest, we have no idea what to expect here. I could see Bailey stepping in and playing like a Hall of Famer and reviving his career just like Sharper did. But I don't think he's a lock for anything either. One of the most interesting storylines of this preseason is going to be Bailey trying to hold off all these young guys for a starting job.
What is crazy to me about the signing is you hear the name and just assume he's gonna make the team, without considering his age, the dropoff in his play, and the fact that he has to be on kind of like a pitch count now...... To me I think this is more of a brain picking situation, where they get veteran assistance for White, Robinson, SJB, if he makes the team....again you can't expect Keenan type production. This is a wait and see type of signing to me.

Quote:

Robinson - I have been one of his biggest supporters and IMO he looked like our best corner all last preseason and early in the season until he got hurt. I would really love to see him come back and be the stud I know he can be. But I also see that he's got a cap number of $2.8 million. That is almost 5 times what Corey White is making
So much pressure on him coming off a bad injury, making to much money, spots on the line, I think we see the best of him this season, but a restructure is definitely not out of the question.

Quote:

Jean-Baptiste - My guess is he'll be similar to Malcolm Jenkins in 2009, playing a lot of special teams and a few snaps on defense here and there. But if he surprises in preseason it'll be hard to keep him on the sidelines. A 6-foot-3 corner can come in handy with all the tall receivers in our division
I see him not being the #2 in the beginning, I really would love it if White, or Robinson step up and win that role.... because then SJB would have no pressure to play the spot right away, and he could spot play against the bigger recievers in our division or be the Akib Talib, on TE who we come up against....

I know that. Thats why I said I wanted to keep an eye on him. I DONT KNOW WHAT HE CAN BRING TO THE TABLE IN THIS LEAGUE,BUT HE LOOKS PROMISING. Thats different from saying that hes gonna be good because he looks good in his highlights.

Bailey should be fine post injury. He looked before his injury. I believe he will be the #2 or #3 corner depending on how TC unfolds. He will be a great mentor for the young guns. We have a ton of potential in the secondary just waiting to be groomed.

Haha! It's kinda like saying a player's gonna be good because he was chosen in the second round...
