Falcons Close in on Division Championship

Falcons Close in on Division Championship PAUL NEWBERRY Associated Press FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - Championships are a rarity around these parts. The Atlanta Falcons have three banners hanging from the roof of the Georgia Dome - two for division titles, another for their lone NFC crown in 1998. Barring a major collapse, they'll have to make room for another. ________________________________________________________ Please post a link instead of the complete article. Thank you. Imagine if he did tear his acl....
Do you think Mora would pursue an upper caliber qb for insurance? Or ..much like what happened here with Deuce and Williams...He gets a number 1 pick to eventually replace him? |

hmmm .. if the guy stays heatlhy no if he does tear his ACl i think they\'d consider that. Vick has the biggest upside in football this guy would be crowned the next great if it wasnt for Peyton and the indianapolis air show. I mean who would have thought Vick could have a great year and not be talked about all that much i wouldn\'t have taken that bet. i think his backup schaub will be pretty ok if hes ever needed to come in a serve in place of Vick no matter how u slice it ATL aint **** without mike vike

Stecker is a dawg.. I would say his job was riding on that fumble. Lets just say we got something with him, He does well under pressure... damn to bad he isnt a QB .. put me in coach im ready to play!!!

I don\'t care for Vick, but I won\'t go so far as to wish him any harm. I\'ve found when I do something like that, one of my favorites takes a fall instead!
But, in the event something happens to Vick, the Falcons should be in better shape than they were last year with Doug Johnson. Granted, I\'m talking preseason here, but Matt Schaub was pretty impressive when I saw him. He\'s certainly not a Vick clone (though he is mobile when pressured), but he seems a bit more accurate. I don\'t think he has Vick\'s arm when throwing for distance, but Schaub seems to have better touch on the short-to-intermediate routes. Again, I\'m talking how he looked in the preseason (Ron Dayne looked good in preseason, too), so if Schaub were to get his chance he might look more like Krenzel than Roethlisberger. In any event, he certainly surprised me, as I wasn\'t terribly impressed with him at Virginia. |

Admit it, Atlantans, without Michael Vick, your team is lower than whale poop, and whale poop is at the bottom of the ocean. :P |

Last year the Falcon\'s defense was diddly-poo. Terrible. But Mora and his coaches have coached them up, switched schemes, brought in new free agents (Rod Smith) , and drafted a highly ranked CB (who was hurt much of the season). But they are in the top half of the league in defense. Between Dunn and Duckett they have the potential to run the ball. They simply wouldn\'t collapse like they did last year. Schaub is better than Bowman IMHO. He could run the offense if Vick was unavailable. I painfully look at the Falcons as testament to what happens when ownership, front office, and coaches are changed. I\'m hoping they Saints can see that too. SFIAH |
Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO
Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |

There\'s little doubt that ATL will wrap up the division this year, and that the success is due to change of management by the owner.
They did it right. Unlike the \'Aints. But... that division crown is only for this year. I\'m sure you\'ll remember that ATL still has that curse, that they\'ve never had back-to-back winning seasons. And that\'s a powerful curse to shake considering the team is even older than the \'Aints. So... they\'ve got it this year, but we\'ll see what happens next year. |
