PFT still thinks we have a lack of talent on defense
Preseason Power Rankings No. 6: New Orleans Saints | ProFootballTalk
The only problem is, the Saints still might not have sufficient personnel on that side of the ball, so regression is a real possibility. But other than bringing in last-legs cornerback Champ Bailey, there wasn’t the kind of influx of talent they might have needed. They improved last year based largely on energy and emotion, and we’ll see how long that lasts in the face of a talent discrepancy. It's laughable really. Gantt spouted this same thing all last year, it's like these people are completely unwilling to see the obvious. Flood this fool with comments. |

Re: PFT still thinks we have a lack of talent on defense
First of all, the writer is Darin Gantt a former beat hack for the Carolina Panthers - so he basically eats out of Cam Newton's @$$...
Secondly, prefer all the ammunition and chips on the shoulder we can get, especially going into training camp... Third, he argues the Saints struggle on the road - he fails to mention that the Saints and Pats own the best road record since 2009... Finally, read his @$$hat criticism of the defense that the big acquisition was Byrd, had offseason surgery, and leaves adding only Champ Bailey... How is it a step back in personnel when you rid yourself of the worst (2012) safety tandem in NFL history in Harper and Jenkins and now have potentially the best three safety rotation in the league in Vacarro, Byrd and Bush?!? LOOK AT THE SOURCE... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: PFT still thinks we have a lack of talent on defense
So is he saying that if Byrd is 100% we will be much improved??
It merits asking...especially since Byrd's surgery was precautionary and he is 100%. |

Well, the man 's entitled to his opinion, no matter how stupid it is.

Re: PFT still thinks we have a lack of talent on defense
The Saints are one season off the "worst defense in history". They were embarrassed on Monday Night Football last season against the Seahawks.
In a former Panther beat writers opinion, the Saints still have to prove themselves. That's fair enough. The Saints have the opportunity to show Gantt doesn't really know what he was talking about. I honestly believe most sports writers don't know any more about football than we do. In my opinion, I think he under rated quite a few things and it would be easy to make a counter argument to his "weaknesses", but really, what would it matter. The proof is in what happens on the field. Only time will tell. Someone should bookmark this thread and next offseason we can compare it to what actually happened. Might be more interesting than discussing pictures of Rob Ryan and number of pizzas he's got. |
