Saints’ “No-Fly Zone” Secondary Might be NFL’s Best in 2014
As Saints Training Camp gets under way this Friday at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia, one of the hotter topics on Saints related / themed message boards has been what nickname to give their suddenly stellar defensive unit. Among some of the more popular names thrown out there have been “Domeland Security” (the big favorite amongst most fans),”The Wrecking Krewe’ (inspired by the New Orleans Mardi Gras) and “The Bayou Bullies” (my personal favorite). However, the one I actually had heard mentioned a few months back (it was actually originally coined some years ago by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) is one that I believe accurately depicts the transformation that has taken place with their rapidly ascending defense: “No-Fly Zone”, because of a secondary that might be the NFL’s best in 2014.
The Saints were very aggressive in their off-season approach to free agency; by giving their secondary a “makeover” which could be straight out of a Hollywood beauty salon. They added some significant pieces into the mix, and they’ll also return several players familiar with Ryan’s complex defensive scheme. They also achieved “addition by subtraction” with the release of veteran safeties Roman Harper and Malcom Jenkins, who both underperfomed during their repective last few seasons with the team. Here’s a quick look at the variety of key components that will comprise the “No-Fly Zone” Saints secondary of 2014. Saints' "No-Fly Zone" Secondary Might be NFL's Best in 2014 |
"A Veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Sorry I don't want anything to do with a slogan that was coined by the Bucs. I don't want another who dat who dey argument. Plus I hate the bucs. I guess my vote would be domeland security. Personally I hate nick names.

“No-Fly Zone”??? I am not sure i am ready to go that far. short and mid range passes up the hash marks still my #1 concern. till we shut that down i can not go that far. thats 6 yards a pop min we need to stop giving up.

At the moment, we are undefeated and haven't given up jack!
How all the hype transitions into real coverage, real tackles and real turnovers still has to be seen. I'm just glad somebody back there is taller than 5' 10". The back will only have success if we have good success up front. If we are giving QB's 5, 6, 7+ seconds, there won't be a No-Fly-Zone. If the corners and safeties have to bang ALL afternoon in run support, there won't be a No-Fly-Zone. 7+4 or 6+5, if we are not getting after opposing QB's, and making tackles up front, we will have to score 35 every week, and then toss a coin. |
