Nick had some issues in a game with a loss so that is always in the spot light.

lets review.

year 1 - injury issue coming out of college and needed to rehab bit.

year 2 - was basically his rookie year. welcome to the nfl big guy. what did you learn. when you drop a few passes Drew will drop you like a old stinky fish. SP will will sit you and it does get lonely down on the end of the bench. he played on just 205 snaps and was active for just eight games, looking over matched much of the time. 8 catches 68 yards

year three - Objective: consistent consistent consistent consistent

big factor is
- He's healthy for the first time since he got drafted.
- He has his legs underneath him again for the first time since he got drafted.

So this is first year IMO that we will get to see what he can do.

one of the reasons i get tired of drafted damaged goods. but this pick i understood and the risks involved

Like I said, I'll be the first person to admit I was wrong if he shows up in the regular season with consistent performances, until then however I am a little wary of getting on the nick toon bandwagon
Patriots game perhaps.

Re: Nick Toon works on receiving skills to score roster spot

It was actually the Dolphins game, with about a minute left in the 1st half. Not a slant, it was a scramble drill. Brees ducked out of the pocket under pressure, Toon cut off his route and headed back toward the middle of the field. He had the corner on his hip. It was not an ideal throw from Brees who was running to his left and threw across his body. Toon had to try to catch the ball over his right shoulder pad.

He should've made the play, the ball did hit him in the hands. But considering the direction he was running with a trailing corner it was a tough play to reach over your back shoulder like that.

Gruden dogged him a little bit for it, but only after they showed the slow-motion replay. Before that he was talking about how the corner (Nolan Carroll) made a nice play to break it up. Just to illustrate it was a bang-bang kind of play. In fact I'm not even sure you would classify it as a true "drop" if you were charting stats because those are usually only on contested plays.

Nice work on finding it JV, all I want to see from Toon is good consistency and bearing in mind all we've heard from camp supposedly he's made some great strides

There's a reason the players like Colston and Moore are/were fan favourites, they made tough plays in critical situations, I hope Toon can do the same this season

No doubt he needs to get more consistent. And I wasn't trying to sound like president of his fan club. I just think we've seen so little of him at this point it's probably not fair to make any judgements yet either way.

Just from watching the few plays from last year he was involved though, I'm excited. He's almost a perfect hybrid of Colston and Meachem. Imagine a guy with good deep speed who can also out-jump DB's in the end zone.

I might even argue that at least in terms of pure physical tools, he's the closest thing to a prototype #1 receiver we have. Colston is big but slow, Stills and Cooks are fast but small. Toon is the only guy on the roster who really combines size and speed (other than perhaps guys like Coleman or Seantavius Jones, but we've seen nothing of them yet).
