The edge to me goes to Griffin.... And you have a lot of talent to consider so this will be a year where every spot counts. Because teams were clamoring over Griffin last season he was added to the active roster. This season he is showing promise. McCown will still be available if there is and injury.

Re: Saints have to keep all three QBs
as always, injuries at other spots will dictatet if we can carry three. If Grubbs, Evans, Bailey, C.Rob, Lorig and Brees are all healthy, then we can.
After last night, both Griffin & McCown deserve jobs. Pretty obvious with our 2-1 passing game plan that we wanted an extended look |

Re: Saints have to keep all three QBs
With the versatility the guys on defense have, it should increase our chances to keep both.

At Safety, you have six good options Vaccaro, Bush, Byrd, Ball, Sunseri and Warren; even Zimmerman looked promising until injury... At Cornerback, though injuries have clouded things but you have five options in Lewis, White, Bailey, Robinson, Jean-Baptiste, with Sweeting and Wade... At Linebacker, you've got salary cap ramifications making cutting Lofton or injured Hawthorne prohibitive, then you've got Galette, Haralson; surging linebackers in Humber, Reddick and Knox; quality depth in Dawson; two promising draft picks in Fortt and Powell; that's ten (10) and not counting an injured (again) Victor Butler who could be expendable for salary cap reasons and inability to get to the field... You have six (6) returning defenders from a surprise defensive line from last season with the possible transition of Rufus Johnson and opportunistic Brandon Deaderick... With an emphasis to get special teams some help; can see easily carrying twenty-six (26) on defense... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: Saints have to keep all three QBs
35 is old for a NFL player yes Drew keeps himself in shape which is why i see him being a starter for the next 3 years. However odds are he we miss some games at 35-36-37 the body will not heal as fast.Teams have spent lots of draft picks an see these players fall by the wayside.Luke is as good as some teams starters say the bottom 8 teams an to me he is in the top 8 nfl back up Qbs.Griffin is already an average 2nd Qb with the up side to be as good as luke by next season. Also kilgore is no bum do with him like team did with Canfield an Andy tanner on an off practice squad.Next year cut luke with Griffin no#2 an Kilgore on Practice Squad as 3rd Qb.But not this year an yes average is 16 to 24 nfl teams have 3Qb on 53 roster an the other 16 to 8 teams have 3rd Qb on practice squad. An yes a few teams have 3 on 53 roster an a 4th on practice squad.

Re: Saints have to keep all three QBs
This is obviously the best QB situation the Saints have ever had. At this point I would have to believe the Saints will keep both backups. There is no way possible Griffin would ever make it to the practice squad, so he makes the team no matter what at this point. I see McCown either making the Saints or being traded. He is another if released would be picked up by another team quickly, so probably not a release and resign type of player.

Griffin right now. That bomb to Morgan was a thing of beauty.

Re: Saints have to keep all three QBs
Both have played great. If they don't keep both then I say trade Luke for a rd 6 pick. Everyone is always looking for a good backup. If they just cut Luke then someone will snatch him in a heart beat.

Re: Saints have to keep all three QBs
McCown is a lot more valuable to us than any other team because he's been in the offense for a couple years. If another team picked him up and just plopped him on the field he'd probably not look so great. For that reason I don't think anybody would trade anything for him. But I am sure he would be picked up very soon if we cut him.

Re: Saints have to keep all three QBs
Brees being injured, even though it seems minor, might make keeping 3 necessary. I hope not. I had rather keep Griffin, who's absolutely ready, and an extra S, WR, or OL player. I truly hope Kilgore will make the PS as well. The kid looks legit.
