AB TRADE RUMOR-----pretty good article

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; profootballtalk is in line with the National Enquirer... ..I would say this about Eli Manning: here\'s the Giants schedule since Manning became the starter: Falcons Eagles at Redskins at Ravens ...and he gets the Steelers this Sunday... .. I don\'t ...

.. I don\'t think Warner would\'ve faired any better than Eli has...probably even worse since Warner most likely than not wouldn\'t have withstood the shots Eli is getting..

Kurt Warner=always overrated.

It was the Rams system, not Warner\'s \"iimmense talent\". Trent Green would have been the god if he hadn\'t gotten hurt in St Louey.

I still don\'t see trading or cutting him. I mean, name names. Who can replace him?
To \"name names\" ---

Jon Kitna
Trent Dilfer
Kurt Warner
Mike McMahon
Jay Fiedler

I\'d be happier with any of these guys over AB...

With the exception of Dilfer and Warner, none of those guys are going to want to come here for just 1 year, and play while a rookie develops.

I really don\'t like any of those guys except Kitna, but I don\'t want to have to commit to Kitna for the long-term(in any case really), when we can get much better QB for the long-term via the draft.

As far as Gator\'s argument about cap room, I will say this if, the key IF we keep AB for next season and then trade him after, we should be okay. This is because if most of the big signings occur this offseason they won\'t make an impact for a couple years down the line much like AB\'s contract. We will take a large cap hit for the 06 season if we trade him after next year, but all those guys we should sign this offseason should have low cap numbers for that year. And remember if we trade AB the cap hit only stays with us for 1 year (unless we do the old wait until June 1 thing- but you get the idea).

Alright, I\'ve had it with AB, but some of this is crazy talk. Jay Fiedler is horrible. He couldn\'t hold the job in Miami with a really solid D. (He wouldn\'t have that luxury here.) Seems like a gamer, but I don\'t want him.

Dilfer? He won a superbowl with the best D of the last 10 years. He\'s a backup who landed in the right place.

Warner? Fumblitis and picks. We\'ve already got that in AB. Succeeded largely because of the system. (Again, not a luxury here.)

I haven\'t watched kitna or mcmahon enough to comment on their games.....

Here\'s the big problem. I liked O\'Sullivan\'s game alot. The play at the end of the world bowl was as good as you\'ll see. He showed toughness and elusiveness. He was also solid every year in the preseason. I really would have like to seen Bouman go instead. (Oh yeah, he was the holder on kicks....thats something to base roster moves on.)

There aren\'t a lot of options. Unloading Brooks AND upgrading at QB will be hard to do, especially with our front office. Brees will be a hard get. He\'ll have better offers than anything the Saints will put out there. I think Hasselbeck is a FA, but he\'s pretty erratic himself. Hotshot rookie? That\'ll make for a year or 2 of ugliness.

I have one crazy scenario that may at least be interesting: Brooks to the Giants for Eli inkele: Maybe they give up on him and think Brooks could use a change of scenery. It would excite the fans at least. I\'m not saying that I think it\'s a good idea....just interesting.

Maybe you ditch AB for a solid defensive player and get your QB elsewhere. I don\'t know :casstet:

The organization has shown a total lack of foresight and I don\'t count on them to make any good decisions going forward. Let\'s just hope that we don\'t lose the team as a result of these shenanigans. THE LOS ANGELES THESPIANS That would be a disaster.

Hey, I never said Kitna, Dilfer, Warner, Fiedler, or anyone else was gonna step in and be the blessed savior of our team. I simply mentioned them as experienced veterans who might be capable of coming in to do the job while a future successor is groomed. Sure, I would\'ve liked that successor to be J.T. O\'Sullivan myself, but Mike McKenzie & a draft pick was a fair deal and definately fit a need. It was, essentially, the \"trade a QB for a solid defensive player\" move yasoon mentioned. These guys I mentioned are the \"quarterbacks you get elsewhere.\"

I offered these guys as options in what will hopefully be a simpler, more run-oriented offense next season (under a new OC). They\'re guys we could probably get on the cheap side, thus freeing up more cap room.

As for successors, that\'s where the real problem begins. This crop of QB\'s is hardly a stellar one. Who is suitable for \"grooming\" - White? Orton? Leinart (if he comes out)? Those guys from Cal or Hawaii? Or heck, maybe Bouman (with a little committed development) or that Kingsbury guy we\'ve got on the practice squad are the answer.

And who would you prefer, Mr. Lombardi?

Lemme guess ... Drew Brees? VERY original...

I\'m fully aware they\'re all backups, that\'s why we could probably get \'em cheap. In a sane world, Aaron Brooks would be a backup, too...
