AFC/NFC Theory
I heard this on TV the other day and I've often thought the same thing and have brought this up before..
Remember the Rams? The "Greatest Show on Turf" ? Well, it seems a lot of NFC teams tried to match what the Rams were doing on offense and tried to keep up with them. Our Saints are a prime expample of a team that concetrated heavily on the offensive side of the ball. In contrast, the AFC had to compete with the Ravens defense and they concetrated heavily on defense. Well, now, most teams in the NFC can't compete with the AFC because the NFC can't stop anyone on defense. This league is a copycat league but I think the good coaches realize that historically teams win with defense and a good running game. Yes, it CAN be done with offense, it's just much harder. If Haslett stays, I hope they concentrate on defense. I hope they are very active in free-agency and hope they draft for defense. Just a few thoughts. Thoughts? |

Defense definitely wins championships. You do have to have a somewhat competent offense to compliment that D, but the D is the more important of the 2. I\'m fairly sure we have the \"running game\" already, if the Oline gets it\'s ass in gear. Ya know, that Deuce fellow....

Yeah, I mean KC and Indy have really followed that Ravens mold whereas Philly and Carolina are the Rams all the way.

I do believe I detect a hint of sarcasm above.

Also there are 6 or 7 defenses who play the 3-4 defense in the AFC and ZERO teams who play the 3-4 in the NFC. Come with something, WhoDat, or don\'t come at all.... Are you trying to tell me defenses are equal between both divisions? Give me some facts and leave that \"WhoDat Fiction\" at home?? |

Let\'s see Billy. Your claim was twofold:
1. That teams in the AFC have tried to emulate the Ravens by building with defense. 2. Teams in the NFC have tried to build by emulating the Rams with offense. Let\'s consider. The top two offenses in the league are??? Indianapolis and Kansas City. Now let\'s look at some of the better teams over the last few years in each division: Carolina - did it with defense. Tampa Bay - did it with defense Philly - Both, but up until this year they relied more heavily on D than O. Who else do you want to include? Atlanta, GB? Neither are anything like the Rams or Ravens. Minnesota - maybe they\'re like the Rams, but they were like that since the Rams were explosive. The Saints? I can hardly call them successful. Seattle? Maybe there\'s one, though I doubt Holmgren is a copycat. How about the AFC? New England does it with D, but they are nothing like the Ravens. Indy - Ramsesque I\'d say. KC too. Denver? Not a great defensive team huh? Tennessee - maybe, but again, they were like that before the Ravens. Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh has ALWAYS been a defensive minded team. Who else Billy? Oakland didn\'t get to the SB with defense. The Jets? San Diego? Maybe Jacksonville is coming up that way - think that has anything to do with Del Rio? I don\'t have to prove anything Billy. You made the statement. Why don\'t you show us all why it\'s true. This oughta be good. |

Problem is, the Saints copied the Rams defense and the Ravens offense. We\'re so a$$backwards.

If you look at the top teams in the NFC and AFC your theory just doesn\'t hold up. |
