I am sure the sky will be falling around here

But in 2011 we lost at GB and ended up 13-3, I am not worried. They are a good team at home on opening day.

It sucks, but we are the Saints and it is just one game. Next week we will be happy again

Week 1 is closer to post-pre-season. :)

We will be fine. Payton is not going to let Rob let the defense play this way.

Saints have nothing to hang their heads about. They didn't get the win here but I don't see any reason to start panicking.

It was a typical Saints Falcons game. Luck prevailed.

Great game for you guys, you look to have a really good team all around. The south is going to be a battle this year.

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

That wasn't luck. They beat us straight up. We had several opportunities to seal this game. The Strief penalty. The Brees interception. The Colston fumble. Atlanta was the better team. Matt Ryan was the better QB.

Typical Saints-Falcons game. IMO this defense needed a wake-up call and they got it today. Show up next week ready to go. Much-hyped secondary was terrible. Even Keenan looked bad.

Hate that a pretty good performance by the offense was wasted. All 3 running backs were spectacular.

They did play better

Divisional road loss. Defense looked horrible front to back. For all the flack he gets around here, Ryan looked like Ice today. Saints can't lose the turnover battle.

I must admit your team offensively shocked the hell out of me. To all saints fans one game does not break us. Our defense has to get better but thank God we don't have to go against good offenses all year.

Now there, you go.. Which Brees Interception? When a receiver gets his hands on the ball, he owns the INT.

2 Seasons and your still sportin the same M.O.

Matt Ryans receivers didnt play volley ball.

Tips and fumbles can bounce in any direction, the recovery is luck.... Thats why you dont try to pick up a fumble and run with it pezo, you fall on it...

Run the ball and Atlanta don't get the extra possessions they got

Last time I checked there isn't a stat for interceptions as far as WR's are concerned. So Brees takes the L for the pick. That was a defining moment in the game.

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

the pick in the end zone? LOL. Come on. It makes a lot more sense to bag on the defense for letting the Falcons run them up and down the field like it's 2012 or something. You score 34 points and lose, it's not on the offense.

I'm not a DJ. The metaphor missed it's mark. Like Brees.

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

Since I have been so negative in most posts about this game ill avoid that here.

Good news is this should give SP and Ryan fuel to add to the fire. Our D may have been too confident coming in. I had this marked as a loss, but we need to see the D come out with some fire next week.

Cooks looked great, and when we ran the ball we ran well. Overall the offense played well considering the D never let them rest.

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

it is atlanta in atlanta records do not matter. snot knocker every time we play. thus is life in the NFC South

Offense showed up with their A game for both sides

Atlanta Defense stepped up big time

Saints Defense might as well stayed home. definitely that was not a fifth rank defense showing. Little or no adjustments after half. never mind. lets see what the brain trust comes up with next week. lets hope it aint deep cover 2 again.

One 3 and out the entire game, scoring on 6 of 10 drives, and a tip drill in the endzone and our QB gets smoked.

One Qb had a completion % of 72, the other a completion % of 69... Looks pretty damn close

THIS!!

How does Gallette get zero pressure going against the same left tackle that got Cutler killed season after season.

Damn near 500 passing yards.. it's a flashback to 2012 all over again. If the play of the D doesn't give you pause, you are living in la la land.

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

The falcons receivers made tough catch after tough catch

Colston dropped 2 passes, fell down on a wide open first down easy conversion and fumbled the ball in the critical stages

Defense better do something, 37 points and 600 yards of offense, might aswell quit now if that's how your going to play

rezburna 09-07-2014 04:00 PM

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

Lol. I mentioned the 3 most pivotal plays. I didn't blame this L on Brees. Some of you focused in on that.

I thought our passing game would be good, but I'm shocked at how well Carimi and Holmes played against two pass rushers like Gallete and Jordan.

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

No point in blaming anything except the defense in this loss. It was terrible.

I'm hoping that it's because they didn't play together much in preseason but the lack of pressure on Matt Ryan was obvious. Cam Jordan did nothing, neither did Galette. Got one sack and not very many pressures at all. That won't get it done.

We are all shocked.

Our D-line looked awful. Your line either played well or JR and Cam are overrated. Time will tell the story here.

Not shocked you guys won, but I am shocked our D played so badly.

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

I don't know where this team is going and I'm not interested in making predictions. All I can say is for one game, this team is everything they were hyped up to be on offense, but defensively, they are non-existent.

I have to think the defense is at least somewhat better than what they showed today, but there isn't really a way to sugar coat giving up 568 yards. And it was the Falcons. They have a couple good receivers, but they don't have a truly elite QB, and they have an old man running the ball. This wasn't Peyton Manning torching us.

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

It was a classic Falcons v Saints game!

It could have gone either way for the win as previous games have done. If you look a previous results a lot of the games have been close.

Its only the 1st game of the season, still lots of time to sort things out. But, I have to say that I think the Browns won't be quite so worried about us when we visit them now.

It will be interesting to see how the Falcons get on when they visit us in December!

Ryan needs to get the defence sorted otherwise this is going to be a long season for us.

Well done to Cooks, great debut for us and a good solid performance from Ingram.

Geaux Saints!!!!

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

Personally, not worried. Byrd and Robinson are new to the defense and they both need to learn their teammates and how they work together. Once they get acclimated to eachother, the defensive secondary will pick up

I was also down with the lack of production from Galette and Jordan, but Atlanta was basically taking everything from the Saints playbook and using people to chip them on the way out on their routes to disrupt both of our DE's. Ryan also made some plays with his legs to buy extra time. But again, not worried, it'll get fixed.

Offensively, really loved Cooks, he's a gamer. Was disappointed with Colston's three drops and fumble to seal the game. I think we all expect more from Colston, and I know he's disappointed with that fumble. I doubt he drops many more balls this season nor fumbles again.

Aside from Colston's three drops, Graham also had one that hit him in the legs, Morgan had a drop I remember... just not a great day overall for our receivers. But we still moved the ball pretty much at will so things will get fixed

I hate to say it, but what Colston did today is very much what I've come to expect. He's inconsistent catching the ball and has fumble-itis. I've said for years that Colston has a huge fumbling problem. You'd think he'd have a little more pride after all the past fumbles that he'd learn to cover up the ball by now. But, nope.

WillMacKenzie 09-07-2014 04:28 PM

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

I'm concerned about Ryan's reluctance to adjust. OK, we all know our D line was supposed to be great against an allegedly bad O-line...however, when the true nature of the game comes into focus, you better send the house if that's the only thing masking your weak backfield play, or you will lose.

At that point the risk/reward is reversed. You can try something different to get off the field, or you can continue beating your dead-horse game plan until you're standing at the podium glad handing your opponent and trying to think of adequate excuses because you KNOW you f'ed it up.

come on man....

Colston is hands down the best WR we have ever had. You can't blame him for 1 fumble in a game that you score 34 and lose... really...

Regular season record is nothing. It's all bout the playoffs and no team wins in the playoffs without a D.

The missed tackles was the most unbearable to watch. Even kv how is a sure tackle was missing tackles. Atl prolly has the best receiving group we will face all year but alot of stuff has to be cleaned up.

Come on, yourself, man. I already blamed the defense in a previous post. With colston I responded to what someone else said about his performance. And I stand by it. He fumbles a TON. If you don't know that then you either aren't watching very closely or you have a terrible memory. And by the way, as bad as the defense was, Colston DOES get part of the blame. You simply cannot make that kind of mistake.

I especially disagree that Colston is not only the best but "hands down" the best WR we've ever had. That distinction goes to Joe Horn.

Colston has stuck around a long time, which has allowed him to break his team records, and he's also had Drew Brees throwing to him. Think about that for a second. Colston has put up decent statistics in an era of offensive ecstasy. He's never been great. But my comments weren't really about where he ranks. He's got a fumbling problem and that is an indisputable fact. Period.

W. Kovacs 09-07-2014 05:01 PM

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

This reminded me more of 2011 than 2012: game is close, Drew leads a game-winning drive, then the defense p***es it away.

I'll have nightmares of the SF playoff loss tonight since I didn't get to watch the game today.

WHODATINCA 09-07-2014 05:02 PM

Re: I am sure the sky will be falling around here

The thing that surprised me most was the complete absence of a pass rush except for TW -- our D upfront was unrecognizable. And, Atl O-line was supposedly not good.

Our secondary has problems -- I don't trust White or Robinson. I was not surprised at the secondary play, though.
