Payton, it was on you.

What on earth possessed Payton to go for a pass play? Surely if we ran the ball we would have still been in field goal range, the clock would have run down more and they would have needed a touchdown to win. I am sorry to say this but Payton, you're an idiot.

that's absurd, that was the right call. We needed a first

No, if we hit a field goal (which we were just in range for) we would have been up by 4, making the Browns go for a TD and not just a field goal.

Right, but they got to our 11 yard line anyway, and if we kick off they don't start at their 4 yard line. So no way, he made the right call

No that's absurd ... Ingram is averaging 10 YPC and we get cute ? He runs it to get us back in it then throws it in the red zone. Like I said even if the passes work at times , it's only asking for trouble.

Ingram and Robinson deserve a better team. Hell Bush and Ivory are succeeding elsewhere I'm sure they will too.

SP what's your deal ? This ain't arena

Re: Payton, it was on you.

Agree with spkb. Why in the world would we not go for a first down? No problem at all throwing it there. Fact is our defense allowed the browns to go 85 yards at the end of the game. SP wasn't on the field with this pathetic defense.

We ran the ball 27 times today, holy ****.... it was 3-5, you pass the ball to win by getting a first down

Idiotic logic ... Take away Cleveland's pick 6 as we should've been running it anyway and this game is over. We throw WAAAAAAAY TO FRICKIN MUCH

If we hit a field goal we would have had to kick off, resulting in a completely different drive, your point is invalid.

i did not see any scheme changes on defense from last week. 5 - 10 - 15 yard cushions? ok we have no faith in the secondary at all. we are chicken

granted the way we were running the ball has to make one wonder. but PT did miss that pick up. in his defense the center and the guard did a double team up front which was a bit of a surprise. so some one was on the wrong page and it appears to be pT.

We ran 27 times and threw 40, we ****ing had 67 plays. If not for the half ending drive where we had to throw due to clock and no timeouts, we probably would have thrown a few more times than ran today

Yeah Im blaming the Defense ... We make Hoyer look like Brady and he picks us apart.... Something has to change.... What happened to the Pass Rush ????

Bad things happen when we throw the ball. We need to just treat Brees like Mark gd Sanchez and only allow him to throw on third and long

This is true, and I will tell you it feels like what we had before. no pass rush and corners we are scared will get torched

Yes the defense is horrible , but that's not likely to change for the rest of the season. We need to protect them by running the ball

Agree with the first sentence of the post, disagree with the second. We need to go with what's working and not try and pull some trickery out of SP's fun bag. We're running the Browns over, but letting the pressure get to Drew. For f***sakes! Run the ball! SP needs to take a page out of Bellichek's book and play power football. We never try to control the tempo with the run when we have one of the best backfields in football. NYJ all over again!

By being aggressive and throwing it on 3rd down we were trying to protect them! We know they can't make a stop so we weren't playing it safe for a FG. We went for a first down so we could eat more clock or score a TD. So essentially you're arguing against your own point.

No I'm not ... If we stick to the run , there's no pick 6 , and we eliminate an average of 2 possessions by the opposition. That's protecting your defense. We threw and threw and threw when Ingram was white hot !

I agree. Why didn't he keep running the ball? It was working. Instead he tries to get creative. Outsmarted himself again.

I have never seen a team that tries to protect it's lead by passing*. Ingram is on fire this year, but Sean is playing Brees like he owns him in a fantasy league.

I agree we should of ran more throughout the game. I'm talking specifically about that 3rd down play. On that 3rd and 5, throwing was the right call. It was being aggressive because we know the defense won't make a stop. But for the first 3+ quarters you're right, we should of ran way more.

Less than 3 minutes to go in the game and you're up by 1 and the team has the ball at their own 4 yard line... how was that call what cost us the game, anyone...anyone

Re: Payton, it was on you.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. We lost. Guess our expectations were unreal. IMO, this isn't SP's or RR's fault. It's there players'. Mostly, square on the defenses shoulders.

Stop all the mental "The wheels are falling off". It could be a lot worse.

Re: Payton, it was on you.

Who said anything about not going for the first down? I just think that not getting it after being sacked/incomplete/intercepted is worse than not getting it after not making any yards. At least then we get a shot at a field goal. What makes you think we wouldn't have got a first down running the ball? I believe it was totally the wrong call.

Nah it's on both but damn if your defense sucks at least try and keep them off the field

I get where you're coming from, a first there and the game is essentially iced. But as a coach you need to play to the situation. Brees was getting pressured all game and Cleveland knew what was coming. Play it safe, this isn't the Super Bowl where you can have that all or nothing mindset, we need to win games.

Mental.

What cost us both games was 1) Settling for field goals on the road. 2) Abandoning the run.

Every QB in the league would have "throwing issues," if the defense doesn't have to respect the run and can drop everyone into coverage.

I'm not going to try to say that Drew is the Drew of 3-4 years ago but saying he has 'throwing issues' is completely unfair.

Re: Payton, it was on you.

No it's fair he's throwing picks almost every game. That's a concern , but hey running the ball protects him and our porous defense

all is to blame, from SP down. we were out coached no line for pass blocking, no d line what so ever PR21 and White are not starters on any team

The pick in the first game was bad. This week, the ball was catchable, especially to JG, and Brees was hit as he threw. Which reminds me of another point: it's also tough to throw when you've got pressure in your face all freakin' day.

We should have been stacking our OL this offseason instead of spending money on defensive pleayers that are apparently on vacation right now.

Fair?

INT against Atlanta was tipped into a defenders hand by Cooks
INT against the Browns was as he was getting hit.

Some people would call at least one of those not his fault and the other understandable.

Giving Ingram the ball doesn't fix a defense that gives up 31.5 points per game. Our offense is averaging 29 points per game and won the time of possession battle in both games. We are in the top 11 in both passing, running, and scoring and all you can find fault with is Ingram not getting the ball enough?

Sorry brother.. I am not buying what you are selling. The defense is the problem.

drew played a good game. Armstead learned a ton from Kruger today also.

look the brownies aint a bad club. they battled in each game last year and was in almost all them to the end. great front 7. excellent OL. add in some some solid depth.

lets be honest. they punched us in the face early and often.
