Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter · 2m
Saints RB Mark Ingram is expected to miss about a month with a hand injury he suffered Sunday, per source.

The Saints will be without their leading rusher for the next several games.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, tailback Mark Ingram sustained a hand injury in Sunday’s loss at Cleveland and will miss “about a month.”

I'm waiting on verification too. This would suck.

I think it is going to be easier for NFL teams to start announcing non-injured players instead of the injured list. The injury lists are getting too long.

Its not like we were using him anyway.

Yep, pretty much sums it up.

Damn, when it rains it pours. If you didn't didn't think Sean P wasn't "pass happy" before, watch us now with Roll Tide out of the line up.

Re: Ingram injured?

Great, maybe we'll pass more now.

Ingram out next 4 games

Wwl broken hand.

KR bout to shine. I feel so bad for Ingram. He was running his way into earning a nice pay day from someone. This could hurt his stock.

Think there is a chance he injured it punching Robinson in the face?

SP doesn't deny the injury, just says he isn't talking about it.

There is a comment around here about 20+ carries verses his historical ability to stay healthy... Would be nice to be able to read and comment with out needing Noah's Ark to get through the sarcasm.

We are fine, rotation will be Robinson, PT, Cadet...

Every time you think this dude is about to turn into the back he was always supposed to be, he gets hurt.

In theory we should be fine with Khiry and PT, although I worry that not having Ingram in the rotation will cause Payton to slip into his pass-happy tendencies.

Wouldn't he have to slip OUT of his pass happy tendencies before he can slip back into them?

How did this happen? ?

He looked good all week.

Sean Payton is forcing Ingram to say he is hurt so he can pass 70 times/game.

I think yesterdays game was pretty well balanced by Paytons standards. Still passed too much but not as bad as he usually does. God I hope this doesn't discourage him from the ground game. We have all the pieces to be a hard hitting grind the ball and then wear them down with short passes kind of offense. I hope he utilizes that.

That's the truth. Halo should put the suicide prevention hotline number at the top of the page on game days.

Edit: that was sarcasm.

This is why we have running backs and not a running back.

...

Sorry, its my defense mechanism. This is starting to feel like 2007 and 2012 and my old ticker just can't take it.

But the way things are going this bizarro season we may actually run more, not less. Wouldn't shock me.

I have faith in Robinson and Cadet. PT is a given of course.

The way we are playing I could see us losing all three. And then the real competition starts. These next three games really need to be wins.

Some interesting notes I am using to temper my enthusiasm about our running game. I hope its merely coincidence.

Browns sold out the run to stop the big pass play:
The Browns made it their mission to shut down New Orleans' downfield passing game. At times Cleveland had seven defensive backs on the field at once -- a tactic that frustrated Drew Brees into a sack and interception in the first half.

Bengals put up 170 yards rushing against Atlanta:

Robinson has shown in the past he can make an impact and PT is always clutch. Not worried.

To temper your temper (playing devil's advocate)

That's exactly what the Saints need to happen. I hope it happens a lot. The Saints have the run game to take advantage of that of that for the first time in...well, forever. It's up to Payton to make teams pay for selling out one part of their defense.

Bengals put up 170 yards rushing against Atlanta:
Atlanta Falcons vs. Cincinnati Bengals - Box Score - September 14, 2014 - ESPN

Bengals led from early on. They rushed a LOT. The Saints averaged a yard a carry more then the Bengals. Ingram averaged 4.6 yards/carry. Giovani Bernard averaged 3.3. As a matter of fact, all three Saints RBs averaged more than a yard per carry more than Bernard.

Punched his locker instead of punching Rob Ryan.

Either that or punching Patrick Robinson.

I wonder if we'd look to resign a Tim Flanders or another free agent. Maybe even Strozier from Tulane.

Broken Hand
Mark Ingram - New Orleans Saints - 2014 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Shefter:
Mark Ingram has been diagnosed with a broken hand, and will be sidelined "at least" one month.
It's a severe blow to both the Saints and fantasy owners. Ingram had finally turned a corner in his NFL career, running as well as any back in the league en route to 143 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries (5.95 YPC). Now the Saints will turn to talented Khiry Robinson for an expanded big-back role, while also relying on Pierre Thomas for more touches. With defenses showing so many dime looks against Drew Brees, the underrated Robinson is a must-add. Sep 15 - 12:29 PM

Re: Report: Mark Ingram to miss several weeks with hand injury

Yea we kept all those backs for a reason. Pierre is just as productive as Ingram is when called upon and KR will get a shot to show what he is made of. Ingram will be back and hopefully pick up where he left off. Our line has been doing a much better job at run blocking so these guys should have plenty of opportunities to put up numbers. They are only as limited as the play calling.

I know our running game will be fine. I just hate the fact that the man was just starting to show his game a little and then this happens. Damn. Guy can't get a break.
