Film review - Cleveland game

Triplette spot on, again:

New Orleans Saints Blog - ESPN

For much of this game, the Saints played very well. They limited the Browns to just 4.5 yards per play, a rate which would have ranked second in the NFL last year behind only the Seattle Seahawks.

The Saints’ tackling in the open field was outstanding. They didn’t get burned by many of the play-action passes that Cleveland loves to run. And they were totally prepared for Johnny Manziel, who did squat on his three snaps.

What does all of that mean? The Saints’ defense is at least trending in the right direction after being decimated by missed tackles and big plays in Week 1.

But that’s where the good news ends.

Because once again, the Saints didn’t make enough big, game-changing plays (zero turnovers and only one sack). And they shot themselves in the foot with a handful of penalties and assignment errors.

So here the problem.

Re: Film review - Cleveland game

What's killing us is last year our pass rush would get pressure only sending 4 guys, which meant on third down we had 7 people in coverage - last year we were outstanding at getting off the field on third down

Now that one of those D lineman just got a big payday, he likes to take plays off now and again, with the other 3 just being completely invisible

We struggle to get off the field on third down this year due to no pass rush and its killing us

Last year going into week 3 we already had 9 sacks, we have 2 this yeus

Agreed, D-line is killing us. Like I said in another thread, those guys got fat and sassy in the offseason.

We need some home cooking to get on a roll.

Re: Film review - Cleveland game

agreed it all starts up front.

I see a pass rush. no really i do. more than a few times. too.

the issue is no one is maintaining there lane assignments. step and move to the side and you have just avoided the entire rush of the new orleans saints.

pick your poison.
rushing too wide and out of control?
Not collapsing the middle of the pocket without losing your lane?
pick anything and heck add a few more.

the saints DL is appears to be out for sack stats and discipline is out of the window.

I think we'll right the mardi gras float this week.

We started our first two games slowly last year as well. Atlanta almost won on a last second pass. Tampa had us beat but made the mistake that returned is the ball - we won by two.

But then, look what happened:

last year was last year. I don't give a squat what we did or didn't do. All i see is fail this year. That line is sad, the Lb's sad and then the back half of the team. My god I am not even going to start.
So look at our games coming up, and you tell me we can stop any of them? No way until this team gets it together. And it starts with fat boy walking around on the sidelines

In a sense kinda of ... Come on your going to say that if we played like we did in the Atl game or even the Browns game. ( even though we played a little better than the week before ). We can beat the teams after the break? I am not saying the three coming up. I am saying from Detroit on through Baltimore, those are good teams that either play great on both sides of the ball. Or can put up some points quick.
So was I being a little hard saying we were sad? Maybe they sure are playing like it. Missing tackles, stupid penlites, blowing coverage, that is sad in my book. I know you cant make every play or tackle, but at the rate they were playing it was a whole defensive side fail
So in a sense yes I kind of was being serious, as i was laughing my ass off typing it. Oh yeah it still starts with fat boy walking around on the sidelines

I HATE ATLANTA
