Re: Coach Sean Payton & Saints need to get back to the basics
12 games left. We need to win 10 of those, hopefully convincingly.
Sputter, putt-putt, then a fumble followed by an interception is NOT what we have become accustomed to. Reminds me of days long past. Payton usually has the guys ready to play, but not lately. They start slow and never seem to recover. The mindset has to change. They don't seem to be focused. Mental mistakes, lacking fundamentals, bad angles, poor technique. Time to hit the brakes and go the other way, and that must come from the leadership... at every level. |

Baby steps, Walk before you can run. But thats why we have preseason.

Re: Coach Sean Payton & Saints need to get back to the basics
This excerpt from the article - "Payton was mentored by Bill Parcells, who wasn’t credited with inventing any great offensive or defensive innovations. The Tuna had talented teams, but not historically so. Parcells won a lot of games in a lot of places by making football look pretty simple. He took away what other teams did well. His teams didn’t make mistakes to kill themselves. They were balanced and poised." - really encapsulates the situation; the team gets away from it's balance on offense, seems to force things rather than take what the opposition gives 'em, and gets too cute at times...
These are things that Payton has too address; remember reading Ryan saying his defensive schemes, reads, et al may have gotten too complicated... |

Payton is ultimately responsible.........it would be better if our draft picks would pan out.

Simply put, if the defense can put together a single 3rd down play that is equivalent to Juniors safety each drive, then the saints would have a lot less to worry about. The yards both on the ground and in the air that the defense is giving up is a function of not pressuring the QB and not getting off the field on 3rd down. And honestly just like yesterday, the offense doesn't finish drives and has too too too too too (is that enough) many turnovers. The record is clear, when the offense doesn't turn over the ball, we win. So it's actually keeping it simple. Pressure the opposing QB by any means and don't turn the ball over. SFIAH |

National Football League playoffs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia there have been instances where the #6 seed has won it all. I would advise after 5 games putting in lofty requirements for the season. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment. The goal always has been, and always should be, getting to the playoffs and getting better. If that means getting in as a 10-6 division winner, then so be it. Quote:

I'm quickly losing confidence in Payton's play calling. He's becoming the most predictable coach in the league.
