Coach Sean Payton & Saints need to get back to the basics
SportsNola.com writer David Grubb writes a truthful analysis of the Saints season and a laundry list of reasons on both sides of the ball as to why the saints season started to decline fast.
"The reasons for the demise are numerous:
- They haven’t pressured quarterbacks. The Saints just have five sacks in four games. At this point last season, they had 12.

Grubbs continues highlighting criticisms of the Saints offense and their sub-par play this season:
"The team’s biggest perceived strength going in to the season has not performed at a level that fans have come to expect.
- The Saints rank just 12th in the league offensively. They sit behind teams like Washington, Kansas City, and Miami.
- While the Saints are 3rd in passing yards, Drew Brees has just 7 touchdown passes which ranks tied for eighth in the NFL...."

Ultimately, David Grubb puts the blame and responsibility for any possible turnaround on Saints head coach Sean Payton.
No coach this side of Bill Belichick wields the kind of power within an organization that Payton does in New Orleans. This is his team, filled with his guys.
Then the writer points out alarming facts about Coach Payton's New Orleans Saints and their back-to-back playoff record.
Those things aside, the fact remains that under Payton the Saints have not won playoff games in back-to-back seasons, and it looks like that streak will continue barring a major turnaround. The team cannot play enough on the road, going 0-3 this season and losing eight of their last nine away from New Orleans overall.
