this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I hate to see a player injured, but as a team standpoint it might be a good thing... Byrd wasn't having the best performances, let's see who steps up in his absence... Bush has played well and now gets his ...

I hate to see a player injured, but as a team standpoint it might be a good thing...

Byrd wasn't having the best performances, let's see who steps up in his absence... Bush has played well and now gets his chance to start

Yeah believe it or not, I think we might be better with him hurt. After all, he did not learn much with us due to back surgery. And he probably would have clicked later on in the season. Maybe now we get back to basics with our defense and tackle and force stops again.

Our offense though is under more pressure to not make mistakes now.

Byrd's replacement is no slouch.

Safety Rafael Bush will jump in the starting lineup to replace Byrd and is more than familiar with the Saints defense. Bush played a ton last season in the team's three-safety scheme and received about half the defensive snaps in three of the first four games this year.

The Saints played hardball with Atlanta to regain the services of Bush. New Orleans matched the Falcons' restricted free agent offer for Bush to maintain its ability to use three safeties in defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's defense. The Saints would be in a much bigger world of hurt if Bush left for Atlanta.
