Turnovers. Pure and simple.
In each of the 7 short week Thursday games, the losing team lost the turnover battle by a seriously wide margin, and averaged 3 turnovers. The only team (surprisingly) that didn't commit a turnover and lost was the Jets vs. NE (enough said). These Thursday matchups are a nightmare for recovery. Pain and fatigue are rampant for all the players, but more so for the decisionmakers. QB's tend to force throws, rb's lose focus on the ball when hit, or believe that extra effort is required when it isn't. The Saints have a HUGE problem with turnovers on the road, have an even bigger problem maintaining focus late in games. I fear that a 4 td lead in the 1st half won't be enough, given the propensity of Brees to toss the obligatory pick-6 and one of our tired ball carriers to cough up a return or YAC fumble. Plan all you want, but this game will be decided by whoever makes the fewest mistakes. |
