Unfortunately I remember most of these.

As my friend, colleague, and fellow Staff Writer here at Who Dat Dish, Mr. Andrew Schuster noted yesterday in his article, Saints vs. 49ers: Top 5 Who Dat Moments of the Sean Payton-Drew Brees Era, memorable moments are made everyday.

With a desperate and struggling (4-4) SanFrancisco 49ers team coming into the Superdome to play a suddenly resurgent and now NFC South Division leading (4-4) New Orleans Saints football club this Sunday afternoon — you can believe many more of those moments will be added to the long list of them, that have occured in 48 years of Saints history.

However, it must be noted that Andrew not only was focusing on the Payton/Brees Era specifically; but also that I’m a bit older than Andrew is, as well. That means of course that not only am I no longer a ‘spring chicken’, but that I’ve seen my fair share of Saints-49ers games over the years (41 years worth of them now as a Saints fan — since my first game as a six-year old boy in 1973).

There have been some thrills associated with victory; and unfortunately, alot more agony that have come in many, many defeats (Hall of Fame 49ers QB Joe Montana is responsible for a LARGE portion of them). That is a testament as to WHY the 49ers lead the All-Time series between the two teams, by a count of 47-25-2.

Keep in mind that as I present to you what I personally consider to be the Top 5 GREATEST Saints vs. 49ers games ever, that this list is subjective; that is, it’s a matter of opinion, though anyone who is my age or older would likely agree with what I am about to present here this morning.

But, it’s important to add that in 48 years, Saints football has become GENERATIONAL — meaning that the Top 5 games that I consider to be the greatest all-time in this rivalry, may NOT be your Top 5, especially if you grew up watching the Saints play in a different era.

So…. with that knowledge in mind on this cool Autumn morning, get yourself a hot fresh cup of Community Coffee Dark Roast (with Southern Butter Pecan creamer in it), a waffle or two with a piece of Jimmy Dean sausage and a small saucerful of grits on the side, and take a trip with me back in time………..
