Four running backs worked out for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Mikel Leshoure, Andre Brown, Brian Leonard and Tim Hightower were in town to work out, Yates said.

Saints running backs Khiry Robinson (forearm) and Pierre Thomas (rib/shoulder) have missed the last three games due to injury, although Robinson is thought to be close to returning.

Reserve Edwin Baker, who was promoted from the practice squad in the wake of the injuries, suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers, so the Saints might be looking for reinforcements in case he can't play.

Leshoure, who played at Illinois, was a second-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions in 2011. He started 14 games in 2012, but his career was marred by injuries and a suspension. He recently worked out for the Bears.


Brown, a North Carolina State product, has played six NFL seasons for five different teams. Brown was suspended at the start the year for failing a drug test, according to the NFL Network.

Hightower was recently playing for a team in the Fall Experimental Football League. The 28-year-old last played in the NFL for the Washington Redskins in 2011.

Leonard, 30, has seven years of NFL experience, most recently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.
