Saints Linebackers

Was watching the Giants @ Seahawks game...

Though the Giants ran out of gas on the road, they played tough...

Particularly their Linebackers; then of course the Seattle Linebackers took the field...

The speed of both teams Linebackers was out****ingstanding; closing corners, beating offensive linemen to nullify screen plays, even covering wide receivers (though on one play for the Giants that wasn't successful, even with the valiant, close effort)...

It really drove home the point that some of us have been making that aside from Parys Haralson, our Linebackers are awful, horrible...

Yeah, Galette has had recent success, but against what?!? Rookie Second Stringers?!?

In truth, after this season, I'd blow up the whole lot of the LB corps and start over...

In fact, I'd start playing the younger guys now for a tryout...

Immediately after the season, EVEN IF WE RAN THE TABLE, I'd discharge the weighted contracts of Lofton, Hawthorne...

Move Galette's contract if that's possible; or bite the bullet and put him in a time share with Kasim Edebali, who's speed is aging, wasted on the bench...

Then I'd tell Joe Vitt we need him to focus more on quality control with regards to jockstraps as we need a coach at that position; I'd even reach out to Dennis Allen...

And I put Loomis and the other bean counters who thought signing Galette to this current debacle was a good idea on notice...

The defensive line got it done last year, but it takes a front seven to CONSISTENTLY apply pressure no matter the opponent...

The LineBacking Corps is more embarrassing than Brees Turnovers...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: Saints Linebackers

I'd say Ramon Humber is definitely better than Hawthorne at this point

You watch the between the tackles runs that gore was getting like 8 yards on, our front 7 cannot get off blocks, they just get pushed around and somebody from the secondary has to come up and make the tackle

Galette is one dimensional, if he doesn't get his guy on the first attempt he will pretty much give up and he loses contain too much

You see that Borland guy for the 9ers, undrafted rookie flying around making 18 tackles a game

Lofton is a decent tackler but he is in no way dominant, he's nothing compared to the 2008-2009 Jon Vilma.

I just don't understand why Brees has become so turnover happy these past few seasons, he's making decisions that a rookie would be annoyed about

Then after the game all we are hearing is " uhh the loss is on me"

Play calling was poor at the end, defense let us down in dying moments, Brees making dumb decisions put us in a hole.

Re: Saints Linebackers

Lofton and Humber are playing well in the middle. The 49ers simply ran the ball at JR. He's a situational pass rush specialist that isn't that special. All I saw out of PH was a penalty. Throw Powell out there and see what he's got. Also, Sunseri needs to see some snaps on D.

JP,
So basically we need to do what Ozzie Newsome did to his team? Worked out well for the Ravens. My frustration lies with the inconsistency of an effective pass rush. I agree, its time to start playing the younger guys .. Powell, Sunseri, Dixon. etc. We must do a better job of drafting linebackers in the 2015 draft.

Side note - watching that blown coverage with K Vacarro on 4th and 10 is hard to swallow. Football is part mental and some of our guys are just flat out lost right now .

Re: Saints Linebackers

Lofton has been consistent and a pretty good force in the run game and decent in the pass. He is a thumper plain and simple...

I'm not even going to get started on the lb.'s, I've said the same thing for a few years but I will say again Joe Vitt needs to go, bring in 1 that has a proven record of developing a lb. core that is good year after year.

Re: Saints Linebackers

None of our LB's are special. Humber isn't good in coverage, he's a mediocre back-up with an occasional splash play.

Lofton is probably a middle of the road MLB, but we're paying him top 10 money.

Galette doesn't play LB, he's a pass rush DE.

Hawthorne or Haralson are our most well rounded LB, which says a lot about the group as a whole.

Sad.

You liked the giants LBs... Who happened to give up 300+ yards rushing?

Re: Saints Linebackers

Surely there is a college coach who knows how to develop LB'ers. Vitt ain't that guy unfortunately.
