Interesting article in the Advocate today where Zach Strief says the pregame atmosphere in the lockerroom tells the tale as to how the Saints will play that day. When it's low, the team will perform poorly; when it's high, the team will play with intensity.

“I’m telling you I could go back to games and say, ‘I felt that coming’ when it doesn’t go well,” he said. “And I feel that coming when we play well. I know what it looks like when a team is ready.”
Strief said he had no issue with the way the Saints (5-8) practiced each week. The problems have arisen on game day. The latest defeat was their fourth in a row at home.

“You don’t want to put in that work and then have that product on the field,” he said. “To me, that is the epitome of professionalism. I don’t think it’s guys walking in like, ‘I don’t care.’ I think it’s not realizing how up you have to be for every game to be successful.

“I keep talking about energy. There’s lots of reasons why we lost that game; we did plenty of things wrong. But to me, it’s less about that stuff and more about why is it that we can’t have the week-to-week energy that’s necessary to win a game.”

Hey Zach - do us a favor.

Come on here before MNF and let us know ahead of time.

I'd like to do something more pleasurable than have my heart dug out of my chest with a rusty spoon and stomped on this coming Monday.

The list is almost endless of more pleasurable things to do than watch you guys getting your jocks pulled over your ears in the Dome by Scam Neuter and his pack of wornout panties...

Just as I suspected -- this team is a head case. They need some sort of pre-game team ritual that helps them get their head in the game and gets them into the "team" spirit. The current pre-game chant isn't enough -- not nearly enough.

Sounds to me like alot of players are getting bored. If you watch the pregame chant, you can tell the difference between now and '09. Looks like some of the players are just not into it anymore. Not sure if that's the case, but it appears that way to me.

Maybe Strief should learn how to pass block again instead of talking about energy.

Players getting bored!!!!! . . BORED!!!!!!!. . . . . . . . . . Yes, it must be soooooooooo boring watching all those millions of dollars filling up you bank account each season!

It should be seen as a privilege and an honour to play football for your City in the NFL and if you can't get fired up for a divisional game, in the Dome, in front of the wonderful Saints fans, who show their support week after week, season after season, THEN SHAME ON YOU! Go to another team, or even better, another sport, we don't want you here if you don't swell up with pride as you don your Saints jersey, helmet and pads on game day!!!!!

There are may other athletes out there who would love the chance to play or try out for a team like the Saints but never even get a look in!!!!!

Nuf said!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr!

Re: STRIEF: Pregame locker room tells how well or poorly the Saints play

I PAY to play in an adult soccer league. I have one game a week on Saturday and I'm psyched every game.

But you can't get your energy up to play in front of thousands of fans?
All while representing a city?

I would think players get bored even if millions of dollars are thrown at them. At first its great, but you get used to it and it becomes every day life. Us as humans can get complacent and I dont think pro players are any different. I dont think it happens to all players though. That's why sometimes you'll see a player who seems to be washed up go to another team and play out of their minds.
